For throat inflammation and coughing in freezing temperatures, a scarf is best. In this guide you will learn how to knit a simple round scarf yourself. In the first place you need time and wool. Since this loop scarf requires no special skills in knitting, it is well suited for beginners. For advanced users, we present a decorative pimple pattern at the end.

The round or loop scarf is a scarf without beginning and end. It is looped around the neck once or several times to keep it warm. There are different ways to knit a scarf . Some make a broad strand and sew together at the beginning and end. Likewise, it is possible to knit from top to bottom and finally stitch together the left and right edges. We have decided on a third variant here: Loop scarf knit with the circular needle . In addition, our round scarf is so wide that it can be worn as a hood if necessary.

To knit a loop scarf that keeps you warm, we chose a cuddly soft wool with a high merino . Because the hooded scarf is very wide, it really warms the neck. The pattern of nubs at the end of the manual is also selected so that it does not create draughty holes. All in all, with the help of this guide, you will knit a scarf that can be your most faithful companion during the cold winter months.

Tip: The loop scarf gets even warmer when you knit it with felt wool. Note the dimensions of the scarf when felts in the washing machine by about one third smaller.

Material and preparation

Material:

• about 75 g of wool at a run length of 200 m / 50 g
• 1 circular needle size 5 with 60 cm / 80 cm
• a knitting needle size 5 for the nub pattern

Since we initially knit the loop scarf cone-shaped, you can start with a circular needle with 60 cm rope to knit. If necessary, simply change to the longer circular needle with 80 cm.

Before knitting your loop scarf, make a stitch test with the desired yarn and needle size. You can use the information on the wool to determine how many stitches and rows are required for a piece of 10 cm x 10 cm . If in doubt, try a few more stitches. Knitt the stitch sample smoothly to the right . If you have decided on the nub pattern, the knit stitch should also be knit in a knit pattern. In our case, 18 stitches over 36 rows of straight stitched right yielded the desired 10 by 10 centimeters.

Set dimensions

At the smaller opening, where we start with the knitting, the circumference should be just under 60 cm . This end of the scarf will later frame the face if you use it as a hood. Then we take about 15 cm height to a total of 10 cm circumference. This corresponds to 18 stitches more than 54 rows. For a symmetrical image, 2 stitches are added in each round of increase. So 9 rounds with increases have to be evenly distributed on 54 rows. 54: 9 = 6. This means that we increase 2 stitches every 6th round until there are a total of 126 stitches in the round.

As a whole, the loop scarf should be 40 cm high . That corresponds to a round number of 144 . Of course you are free to knit your scarf higher or lower. It also depends very much on the wool, how the scarf finally feels and lays around the neck.

Tip: Since you knit the round scarf in rounds, you can try it again in between and decide whether it is high enough.

Knit round scarf

The most important thing is now cleared. Take the required number of stitches. We recommend a knit stitch with two knitting needles to make it nice and easy. Close the stitches to a round.

Then knit the first five rounds in Cuff Pattern 2 left, 2 right. If you knit right to start from the beginning, the knit could curl. We really want to avoid that with the hood part.

Note: Be sure to use a lap counter or make a tally until you have at least completed the increase hours.

From then on it continues smoothly right or with the Noppenmuster . Take 2 stitches in each round. The best way to mark the beginning of the round from the outset is with a stitch marker or a different colored thread. The two places where you increase the mesh should be opposite each other. For example, this would be the first increase in the 27th and 81st stitches for us. Here you attach one more stitch marker each.

So work your way forward until you reach the 70 cm circumference . Now the two stitch markers for the increases can be removed.

It continues now round after round until the desired height is reached. Cut off all stitches and sew the thread.

Your loop scarf is ready now!

The scarf can also be worn as a hood.

Knit the nub pattern on the scarf

If it is boring to knit a round scarf right on the right, you can try this nubby pattern. It is very diverse and quite easy to work with. The basic principle is as follows: Take three stitches from the left needle onto a needle.

Wrap the thread four times across these three stitches. Now knit the three stitches as normal and continue with the stitches on the left needle as usual.

So that's the basic idea. Now you can think about how you want to distribute the knobs in the circular scarf knitting. A simple scheme would be to always select units of 10 meshes. It then comes after 7 stitches a knot on the last 3 stitches. Then knit 1 round smooth right. In the next round, move the scheme 5 stitches. So the new pimples appear in the middle between the old pimples. Knit 3 rounds to the right and then repeat the pattern scheme .

Of course that's just a suggestion. There are also all other mesh and row spacing possible. The nubs themselves can be wound as desired only 2 or 4 stitches or you wrap the thread around 3 or 5 times. There's no limit to the individuality of the Loop Scarf!
