With such mug coasters you not only make yourself a joy. They are the perfect souvenir for the girlfriend, the mum or the dormitory, so that the table is inviting. Individually crocheted or in a set, you will always have good memories.

Material and preparation

For cup coasters or coasters for glasses we recommend a mercerised cotton yarn. This yarn expresses the crochet pattern wonderfully and can be processed very well. Such a cotton yarn is available from many different manufacturers, usually in a very rich color selection. It's really fun to design the coasters with the most different colors and to play with the colors.

Important in the selection of materials is also that the cup coasters can also be washed in the washing machine. This is always the case with pure cotton. Of course, you can also crochet such charming coasters from your own remaining yarns.

Our cup coaster instructions are sorted by difficulty. We start with a very simple coaster. So you can slowly get used to the circle crochet, so you have become the fifth coaster already a professional.

The coasters have our instructions, depending on the pattern, a diameter of 10 to 12 centimeters.

You need:

  • cotton yarn
  • Crochet hook suitable for yarn thickness. Our crochet hook was 2.5
  • Stopfnadel for sewing the work thread

crochet:

  • stitches
  • Magic Ring
  • Fixed stitches
  • chain stitches
  • rod

melon slice

This coaster we crocheted in three different colors: coral, white and green.

The basic pattern consists of fixed stitches and a spiral loop. In the spiral round, the rounds are continued without crochet. To find the beginning of a turn, work with stitch markers. We only used a different color yarn as a marker.

1st row

Crochet a magic ring.

2nd row

Crochet 6 tight stitches into the Magic Ring with a slit stitch close this round. Crochet 1 air mesh as climbing air stitch.

3rd row

The fixed stitches of the previous row all double, so that now 12 stitches are in the round. Lay stitch marker.

4th row

Double every 2nd stitch = 18 stitches

5th row

Double every 3rd stitch = 24 stitches

6th row

Double every 4th stitch = 30 stitches

7th row

Double every 5th stitch = 36 stitches

From the 8th row continue in this procedure:

  • Double 8th row every 6th Ma
  • 9th row every 7th stitch,
  • 10th row every 8th Ma,
  • 11th row every 9th Ma,
  • 12th row every 10th Ma,
  • 13th row every 11th Ma,
  • Double row of every 12th row.

You can see that if you work according to our instructions, 6 corners will work out of the rounding.

Tip: Color change in spiral rounds: The spiral rounds are simply crocheted in a new color.

15th row

Color change - white - In this series we have changed the color. Double every 13th stitch.

16th row

Color change - green. Every 14th Ma doubles.

17th row

Every 15th Ma doubles.

18th row

Every 16th Ma doubles.

The first cup is ready. Its diameter is 10.5 centimeters.
In order to create a melon slice from our color scheme, we simply embroidered a few cores in the middle.

Another version - in white-yellow-white

In this coaster we have only changed two things. 9 half rods are worked into the Magic Ring, so the 6-corner becomes a 9-corner-coaster.

The entire cup is crocheted in half sticks. The work process is exactly like the 6-corner. However, the increases are always 9 stitches more per round. So you only have 10 laps to work until the coaster is completed. He has a diameter of 11 centimeters.

Simple coaster

This coaster is crocheted in rounds. That is, each round is completed in itself. It always ends with a chain stitch and starts with climbing air meshes.
We have worked this coaster with chopsticks, so that a climbing air mesh is always crocheted from 3 air stitches and thus counted as a full stick in the round.

1 round

Magic Ring

2nd round

Crochet 17 sticks into the Magic Ring and complete the round with a chain stitch.

3rd round

Double all chopsticks, that means: In each chopstick of the preliminary round, crochet 2 sticks = 34 sticks. The round ends with a Kettmasche in the Steigeluftmaschen.

Tip: In this type of round crochet, each round can be worked in a different color. The result is colorful and vibrant mugs.

4th round

  • In this round, every second stick is doubled.
  • 3 ascending air stitches = 1. sticks
  • In the next stitch of the preliminary round 2 chopsticks work
  • 1 - 2 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 2 ......

5th round

  • Double every 3rd stitch
  • 1 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 1 - 2 ... ..

6th round

  • Double every 4th stitch
  • 1 - 1 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 2 ....

7th round

  • 4 air stitches - 3 air stitches as sticks and 1 air stitch as follow pocket
  • Skip 1 stitch of the preliminary round
  • In the next stitch 1 chopsticks
  • 1 air mesh
  • Skip 1 stitch of the preliminary round

So you always skip a stitch of the preliminary round, you put 1 stick and 1 air mesh. There are air mesh arches. This round has no increases. The round is finished with a chain stitch in the crotch bag.

8th round

To make the transition to the new round, place a warp stitch in the first bow and crochet 5 sticks in that bow. In the next loop you only work one slit stitch. That means: every second air-mesh arch is filled with 5 sticks. The intervening bow was skipped with a chain stitch.

Cut and sew the threads at the end of this round. This coaster has a diameter of 10.5 centimeters.

chopsticks arrangement

This colorful mug is mostly made in chopsticks. Every round is complete. This makes it easy to move to a new color.

1 round

Crochet Magic Ring.

2nd round

6 strong stitches in the Magic Ring.

3rd round

In each fixed loop of the preliminary round are now crocheted 2 sticks = 12 sticks. We worked in coral for the first three laps. Finish the round with a slit stitch to the first stitch.

Note: Each new round begins with 3 Air Meshes, which are counted as Chopsticks. Each round ends with a warp stitch, which is worked into the first chainstitch.

Color change:

Before changing the color just after the last stitch, pull the thread through the loop and cut the thread. At the start with the new color you can sting in any stitch of the preliminary round and continue crocheting.

4th round

Color change - pink

With the new paint in a space between the sticks prick and work the round so on: In each space come two sticks and an air mesh, 2 sticks and 1 air mesh ....

5th round

Color change - white

In this round, crochet 3 sticks and 1 chain of air into each airmesh area of the preliminary round. The first stick is replaced again by 3 air meshes. The round ends with a chain stitch in the first chainstitch.

6th round

Color change - mint

In this round, crochet 4 sticks and 1 airlock in each airmesh sheet of the preliminary round

7th round

Color change - blue

In this round 5 sticks and 1 air mesh are worked in the air mesh bow of the preliminary round.

8th round

Color change - white

In each air-mesh arch of the preliminary round come 6 sticks and 1 air mesh.

9th round

Color change - pink

There is no increase in this round. A crochet is made into each stick and into each of the preliminary rounds.

10th round

Color change - coral

So that this cup coaster gets a nice edge, we have decided on a pikotkante.

Instructions - picot edge

  • 4 air meshes
  • Crochet 1 stick in the 1st of this mesh.
  • Skip 2 solid stitches.
  • Crochet a sliver stitch into the 3rd stitch.
  • This repeats the entire round.
  • 4 air meshes
  • Crochet 1 stick in the first of this chain, making it a quasi chopsticks.
  • Skip 2 solid stitches.
  • In the third fixed stitch of the preliminary round comes a chain stitch.

This cup coaster has a diameter of 11 centimeters.

Coasters in three colors

  • Main color, which is also started = dark coral
  • Secondary color 1 = blue
  • Secondary color 2 = pink

All odd rows are crocheted in the main color. The rows 2 and 6 are worked in the secondary color 1. The rows 4 and 8 are in the secondary color 2.

1 round

main color

  • Magic Ring
  • 3 climbing air meshes
  • 18 sticks - with ascending air mesh = 19 sticks
  • Finish the round with a warp stitch.

2nd round

Color change - secondary color 1 = blue

Pierce into any mesh gap. 1. Replace the rods with 4 ascending air meshes (= 1 stick + 1 air mesh).

Continue in each stitch interval as follows:

  • 1 stick and 1 air mesh
  • The round ends with a chain stitch.

3rd round

Color change - main color = coral

Work 2 meshes in a chopsticks. In the following air chain 2 sticks and
Crochet 1 stick again in the directly following chopsticks of the preliminary round. This creates a very closed rod round. However, you have to be careful that the chopsticks of the preliminary round are covered somewhat by the sticks in the air-mesh arch.

4th round

Color change - secondary color 2 = pink

  • Prick into a chopstick of the preliminary round.
  • 5 air meshes = these correspond to 1 sticks + 2 air stitches
  • In the same stitch again 1 stick
  • Skip 2 stitches of the preliminary round
  • 1 stick
  • 2 air meshes
  • 1 stick
  • again skip two stitches of the preliminary round
  • 1 stick
  • 2 air meshes
  • 1 stick

So crochet the whole round to the end. Finish the round with a chain stitch.

5th round

Color change - main color = coral

  • Start in an air-mesh arc.
  • 3 air meshes as sticks + 2 sticks
  • Crochet 1 stick in the space between the chopsticks.
  • 3 sticks in the air mesh bow
  • 1 stick in the space between the two sticks from the preliminary round

This is how you crochet the entire round. The conclusion forms a Kettmasche.

6th round

Color change - secondary color 1 = blue

  • In the middle stitch of the three sticks of the preliminary round.
  • Work 5 meshes and 1 stick in the same stitch
  • Skip 1 stitch
  • 1 stick
  • Skip 1 stitch
  • 1 stick - 2 air stitches - 1 stick in the same stitch
  • Skip 1 stitch
  • 1 stick
  • Skip 1 stitch
  • 1 stick - 2 air stitches - 1 stick in the same stitch

In this order you work the whole round to the end. Finish the round with a slit stitch inserted into the 3rd mesh of the initial air meshes.

8th round

Color change - secondary color 2 = pink

  • Begin the round in an airmesh arc.
  • Work 3 air stitches (as 1st chopsticks) and 4 more chopsticks in the bow.
  • Crochet one sliver stitch into each of the next two stitches.
  • Now you are back at the next aerial bow.
  • Crochet 5 sticks in this bow.

In the two stitches of the preliminary round again work two warp stitches, so that you get back to the air mesh bow. The round ends with two warp stitches. Crochet a final warp stitch in the second air stitch of the initial stitch.

This cup coaster has a diameter of 12 centimeters.

Shell Coaster

1 round

Crochet Magic Ring.

2nd round

16 sticks - of which the 1st stick is replaced by 3 air meshes.

3rd round

  • In each of the preliminary round 1 sticks + 1 air mesh
  • 1 stick
  • 1 air mesh
  • 1 stick
  • 1 air mesh

The series ends with an air mesh. The round is completed with a chain stitch. At the end of this round you crocheted 16 air mesh caves.

Tip: You must count exactly for this coaster. Best always in every round, it is also worthwhile if you already count the round. Only then will you have the exact overview that you have not crocheted too little or too many stitches.

4th round

Crochet in the first loop

  • 3 air meshes as 1st chopsticks substitute
  • 1 stick
  • 2 air meshes
  • 2 sticks
  • 2 air meshes
  • Skip 1 Air Mesh Sheet
  • In the following air mesh arch again
  • 2 sticks
  • 2 air meshes
  • 2 sticks
  • 2 air meshes

Through the 4 rods and the two air meshes in between, they get a V.

5th round

  • In each of these V's crochet now: 9 sticks.
  • Crochet a warp stitch in the interlaced archwire sheet.
  • In the first V work the following: 3 air meshes = 1 rod replacement, 4 rods.
  • Work in the following air mesh sheet 1 sliver stitch.
  • Crochet 9 sticks in the next row.
  • In the next sheet again 1 sliver stitch.
  • And in the next V again 9 sticks.

So you work the entire round until you come back to the first, only half-filled rod bow. Now fill this with four more chopsticks, that there are 9 sticks. The round counts 8 sticks (shells).

6th round

You have now arrived in the middle of a shell at the new round and can continue working from there.

They work as follows:

7 Stitches - Punch them into the 5th stitch of the next piece of bow and crochet a chain stitch. You have connected two shells with 7 air meshes. Continue working the entire round until all shells are connected by a chain of airmesh.

7th round

They start automatically again in the middle of a shell. From there you continue working as follows:

5 air stitches = 1 stick and 2 air stitches. Now you work in every 2nd air mesh 1 stick and 1 air mesh. Also, the chain stitch between the shells counts here as a scam and is counted. The round ends with a warp stitch in the 3rd air mesh of the 1st chainstitch. The round counts 32 new arcs.

8th round

The 8th round corresponds exactly to the 4th round and is therefore worked the same way.

Crochet in every second loop of airmesh:

  • 2 sticks
  • 3 air meshes
  • 2 sticks
  • 1 air mesh

An air mesh arch is always free.

9th round

The final round

In each V you work 11 sticks. Crochet a chain stitch in the skipped aerial bridge.

If, as in Round 4, you start the first shell with only 6 sticks, finish this round with 5 more sticks in this first shell. The conclusion forms as always a Kettmasche.

This variant we have crocheted in other colors. We crocheted the middle part in one color and the rest only in white. So you can put together complete sets. As a gift you will reap much joy for this.
