Mesh stitch / knitting stitch - this is how you connect two knitted pieces

In the course of a knit life you can not avoid having to sew one or the other edges together. Sewing knitted items is a red cloth for many people. But it is not that difficult. This tutorial will show you step by step how to stitch two smooth knitted pieces together almost invisibly with the stitch stitch (knitting stitch).

The so-called "stitch stitch" is often referred to as "knitting stitch". With its help you sew the upper edges of two knitted pieces together. The stitch directly mimics the pattern of right stitches. This is what it looks like in the end, as if the pattern were going on smoothly to the right. A seam is not visible. For example, the stitch stitch is applied to the shoulders of sweaters, vests, or sweaters. The conclusion of socks with a band lace looks nice and coherent, if the last stitches are stitched together with knitting stitch. You can apply the stitch stitch to both disused stitches and already pasted edges.

Mesh stitch with disused stitches

If you still have the last row of stitches on your knitting needle, you can use this variant of the knitting stitch. The stitches are sewn together so that they can not dissolve anymore. As the last row, a back row is knitted with left stitches, then the edges can be sewn together.
Material:

• 2 related knitted parts
• wool needle

For the stitch stitch, there must be exactly the same number of stitches on both edges. Usually it is sewn from right to left. Normally, take the remaining work thread of the front piece of knitting. In the manual, a thread of different color was used to illustrate the process more vividly.

First place the two edges facing each other so that the smooth right side is visible. The knitting needle that is closer to you (in the photo below), call like the "front needle". The overlying knitting needle, which is farther away from you, is called the "rear needle". Take the sewing thread on the wool needle.

Now insert in the first stitch of the front needle from right to left. Then insert the first stitch of the back needle from left to right. Pull the thread through.

Note: For the knitting stitch you need a thread that is about three times as long as the edge itself.

Now pull the thread a second time from right to left through the first stitch on the front needle. Now slide the first two stitches off the needles. Next, insert from right to left into the now first stitch of the front needle. The piercing is just like trying to knit a left stitch. Insert it into the meanwhile first stitch of the back needle from left to right. This puncture follows the scheme of a stitch on the right.

From here begins the regular rhythm of the knitting stitch. The same 4 steps are repeated again and again:

1) On the front needle, pierce the first stitch a second time. This time, however, from left to right, like a right-hand stitch. Let the stitch slide off the needle.

2) Insert the next stitch on the front needle as if knitting a left stitch. Leave this stitch on the needle.

3) Now insert into the first stitch of the back needle as for left knitting. Lift the stitch from the needle.

4) Insert in the following stitch of the back needle as for a right stitch. Leave this stitch on the needle.

Now start again at step 1.

Tip: A quick note for these 4 steps is: "Front right, drop, left; back left, drop, right ".

When inserting, make sure to always stab under the knitting needle. Otherwise, the regular, smooth-right pattern does not arise.
At the end of the seam, you will last drop the stitch of the back needle. For a conclusion, sting again from front to back through the last loop of the lower edge.

Sew the thread and cut it off.

Knitting without woolen needle

If you do not have a wool needle at hand or if the knitting needle is better in your hand, you can also use the knitting needle to make the stitch stitch. Here you go exactly opposite to the rule for the wool needle.

They prick into the first stitch of the front needle as for left knitting. Drop the stitch. In the following stitch you stab like a right stitch. Do not forget to pull the thread through!

Then insert into the first stitch of the back needle as for right-hand knitting. Let the stitch slide off the needle. Finally, stick in the following stitch on the left and pick up the thread.

Tip: The pattern for the stitch with knitting needle is: "Front left, drop, right; in the back right, drop, left ".

Knitted stitch with chipped edges

This is about sewing two edges of plain right knits together if they have already been chained off. The seam is also invisible at the end, but from left to feel slightly as an elevation.

Material:

• 2 related knitted parts
• wool needle

In this knitting stitch, it is also necessary that both edges have the same number of stitches. The colored thread is for illustration. For real knitting, the sewing thread should be the same color as the rest.

Pierce from right to left under the two threads of the first stitch at the bottom edge. Now pierce from right to left under the two threads of the first stitch at the top edge.

Pull the thread through.

Now pierce in the same place where you first pricked out of the bottom edge. Let the needle slip past the next stitch. Likewise, pierce the former cutout point of the upper edge and pull the thread behind the next stitch.

This goes on and on until the end of the edges is reached. Finally, sew the thread.
