Most have the term terrarium a square glass box filled with sand and one or two tree trunks in it. Iguanas, lizards and other exotic animals live on the tribes. However, a terrarium is simply a container that can be used to hold various animals and plants. Frequently, the habitat of animals or plants in the terrarium is reproduced in a smaller space.
With this tutorial we want to give you some suggestions and show you how to make your own small terrarium yourself quickly and cheaply. Everything you need for this you will find at home. The design is subject to your taste and what you find in nature right now.
Terrarium in the light bulb
Do you have a broken bulb anywhere? ">
For this you should definitely put on gloves and as a precaution put on protective goggles. When you open the bulb, there are fine chips that can injure you.
The thread of the bulb is a small silver-colored part. Try to break it carefully with a pair of pliers or a small screwdriver. This does not succeed immediately, but one must apply here slight "violence".
Then the black glass around, is also broken out.
Step 2 - Remove filament
The filament is enclosed in another glass container. You can carefully pierce this with a screwdriver and shake the individual parts out of the light bulb. With a pair of needle nose pliers, you can pull out anything that hangs tight.
1 of 2Now check the opening again. If there is still a lot of glass, break it out with the screwdriver or needle-nose pliers until you are satisfied with the result.
Before it goes any further, the broken glass and splinters should be disposed of.
Step 3 - Position mini terrarium
Now consider how you want to position your light bulb as a mini terrarium. We decided to fix it on a stone and attached the light bulb with hot glue.
1 of 2More options:
- Pull a string through the thread and hang it up
- Cut a holder out of toilet paper roll and paint as you like
- fix on a piece of wood or a branch
Step 4 - Fill the terrarium
It is recommended to fill in a layer of stones first, as a drainage, so to speak. Since the stones are difficult to fill, we have taken a piece of paper to help and turned a small funnel out of it.
Tip: You can also use colored decoration stones as drainage.
As a second layer, we filled in wood chips. These were left over from wood sawing and look even more decorative. Alternatively, you can also fill in real soil.
1 of 2As a decoration for the light bulb we recommend to go in search of beautiful moss in nature. Moose are an uncomplicated plant that is very effective in such vessels.
Cut or pluck the moss to a size where it fits through the opening. Should it be a bit bigger it works too. Using tweezers or a wooden stick or any other long object, gently press the moss into the opening and place it. The amount of moss also depends on your own taste. At the end we scattered a few pebbles.

Look around at home: Which vessels do you like ">
Examples:
- jar of jam
- honey jar
- old tealight holder
- wine bottles
- spice containers
Step 1 - Preparation
Clean the containers with warm water. Think about how you want to position the vessel - standing upright or lying or slightly sloping ">
Step 3 - Earth or something similar
Depending on the planting you can fill up some Eder or use finer Holfasern fibers. In our examples, we did not fill up any soil, but left the soil to the plants.
Step 4 - Fill the terrarium
Stroll over a nearby meadow or through the forest. Small plants, especially different species of moss, thrive splendidly in the mini terrariums. We decided on the simple but always beautiful daisy.
1 of 2Tip: As a decoration you can use some bark, larger stones or different tree fruits (acorns, maple blossoms, beechnuts).
