If you want to learn crocheting, of course, first of all a small overview of what is possible at all. The advantage of crocheting is that you can do a lot with the few basics that exist. As a beginner, there is no better crafting technique than crocheting. In this overview we show you which crochet meshes are available and how they are worked. We also provide a variety of patterns to practice and consolidate your newly acquired crochet skills.

Crochet stitches at a glance

stitches

The air mesh is the simplest basis for crochet, but can be used most versatile. For example, it serves as a spiral air mesh when turning the crochet piece or as a replacement for other stitches at the beginning of a new round. Several air meshes together form the so-called chain of air mesh .

This chain works in the crochet piece as a connecting element. Air mesh arches also make it possible to integrate hole patterns, because you can skip with the air mesh stitches of the previous series.

Here are pictures of how to crochet the meshes exactly: Crochet the meshes

chain stitches

This stitch is used, as the name implies, to link stitches together. Mostly we used the chain stitch as a round end to tie the first and the last stitch together. This allows a stable and discreet lap transition, which holds in any case.

This flat stitch can also be used as a decorative edge . Especially in a different color, the Kettmaschen look very elegant.

thread ring

The Magic Ring, also called a thread ring, is the classic start with closed, round crocheted pieces, such as caps or Amigurumi animals. Any stitches are crocheted in the ring and then pulled together - the first round is done.

Fixed stitches

With sturdy stitches you create a stable and even crochet surface. Often you use this type of mesh on cap or Amigurumi cuddly toys. Especially the latter need an opaque and impermeable coat, since the animals are filled with cotton wool after crocheting.

Furthermore, fixed stitches are also often used as finishing and marginal edges. Here are the steps: Crochet Stitches

rod

Chopsticks are higher in comparison to fixed stitches and therefore slightly looser in the stitch pattern. The crochet piece is therefore a little more supple and not so stiff. If desired, the height of the rod can be adjusted and changed as desired. To understand the principle of the sticks even better, you can remember:

Chopsticks are strong stitches on stilts.

half sticks

Let's start with half the sticks - from the height it is a little bit higher than a solid stick. The picture shows how two rows of fixed meshes and two rows of half-bars differ. The crochet pattern can be found here: Half Chopsticks

whole chopsticks

The whole stick is a bit higher - it consists of an envelope and two fixed stitches. So you can say: the whole stick is almost twice as high as a solid mesh. How to crochet: Whole sticks

double chopsticks

Even higher is the double stick - as the name implies, it is almost twice as high as a whole stick. For this stick two envelopes are taken at the beginning of the needle and abgemascht successively all the stitches on the needle. Here's how it works: double rods

relief chopsticks

To bring some structure in the crochet piece, you can crochet relief sticks. These are conventional half-sticks, whole sticks or even double sticks - at will. Here only the puncture site varies - depending on where you puncture, so-called ribs are created in the pattern. One differentiates here between front and back stabbed relief sticks . How to crochet: Reliefstäbchen

By crocheting the sticks from the previous row, relief sticks are always slightly lower than their "normal crocheted siblings".

Cut off stitches

Of course, if you want fewer stitches in a row or a round than in the previous one, you must of course reduce the number of stitches. This is called loosen or stitch off stitches.

This is how the stitching of solid stitches works:

You make one of two single stitches. To do this, stab in the first of the two and start crocheting a tight knit. You have now pulled the thread through the stitches and there are two stitches on the needle. Now the fixed stitch is not worked directly to the end, but you pull the working thread once again through the second, fixed stitch of the previous row. There are now three loops on the needle.

The stitching is done as follows: get the work thread and pull it completely through all three loops on the needle. This is how you have made a single loop out of two stitches.

Increase mesh

If you can reduce mesh, you can multiply it. This is called "increase mesh". The principle here is very simple and works the same way for all crochet meshes. Only two stitches are worked into a puncture site. Here in the pictures you can see how we take a tight stitch. We simply crocheted two tight loops in one. As already mentioned, this works the same way when chopsticks are grown.

Various crochet patterns

Once you have the most important crochet stitches on it, you can do a lot with it. The best way to improve your crochet skills is to try different crochet patterns.
