Material and preparation

Basically, in order to crochet this flower chain, all yarns can be processed. Of course, it looks nice if a cotton yarn is used that gives off a clear crochet pattern.

yarn

A wonderful cotton yarn, gassed and mercerized, is offered by Schachenmayr with the Catina yarn. The yarn has a slight sheen and is dimensionally stable, which is a great advantage when crocheting a flower chain.

However, we crocheted with a 8-10 pearl thread and a 2 mm crochet hook. Even if this yarn is mainly used for Hardanger embroidery, it can be processed very well for delicate crochet projects . The Anchor company has wonderful colors for this. With the material for the flower chain, the decisive factor is how big the flowers should be.

For delicate flowers, use a finer thread, for larger flowers use a cotton thread that is crocheted with a needle size of 2.5 - 3 mm. And if you want to work up your leftover yarn, you can also use it to crochet your flower chain.

Depending on the thread size, you also need to crochet for the flower chain:

  • 1 crochet hook of the appropriate size
  • 1 darning needle
  • 1 pair of scissors

Color change - How to change colors when crocheting

A round is complete for each flower. This means that if you start a new round with a different color, you can do this at any corresponding point. To sew the threads, we even recommend always starting the new round at a different point.

You start like this:

Pull a thread through the new stitch, crochet a slip stitch and start working.

Describe the decoration of the flowers

If you want to spice up your flower a bit, just decorate your flower a little. It's very easy.

When decorating, you always work on the flower surface and pierce between the stitches. Place a firm loop to begin with the working thread. Pull this loop between two stitches.

Pierce through the next stitch, place the working thread on the needle and crochet a slip stitch on the surface.

So you can decorate all crochet pretty.

Tip: We recommend working the flowers in parallel with reading the instructions, step by step. This will make it easier for you to understand each step.

Crochet the flower chain

The Rose

The rose is crocheted from a chain stitch chain, which receives small petals in the following rows.

It looks very complex, but is very easy to rework.

Row 1: The more chain stitches you cast on, the bigger the flower.

  • Cast on 80 chain stitches + 1 rising air stitch = 81 stitches
  • Turn work !!

2nd row: Work 1 half double crochet in the 2nd chain stitch. Crochet the entire row with half double crochet.

  • 2 rising air stitches (they replace the double crochet of the next round)
  • Turn work !!

3rd row:

  • 3 chain stitches

Skip one stitch of the preliminary round. Work 1 double crochet in the following stitch. That means crochet 1 double crochet + 3 chain stitches in every second stitch of the preliminary round.

At the end of the row ...

  • 1 rising air stitch
  • Turn work !!

4th row: In each chain space of the preliminary round ...

  • 2 chopsticks
  • 4 double sticks
  • 2 chopsticks
  • Work 1 slip stitch

In this sequence fill out the entire form. This round creates a nice crochet spiral. Sew this together to a rose.

Five-petaled flower

1 round:

  • thread ring

2nd round: Crochet in the thread ring ...

  • 3 chain stitches (for the 1st double crochet)
  • 4 chopsticks
  • 2 chain stitches
  • 5 sticks
  • 2 chain stitches
  • 5 sticks
  • 2 chain stitches
  • 5 sticks
  • 2 chain stitches
  • 5 sticks
  • 2 chain stitches

Tip color change: When changing colors you can start the new round in any stitch.

Cut the working thread of the first round, pull it through the loop. Now start over with a new thread. We recommend this so that the sewing of the threads is not concentrated in just one place.

3rd round: Work 1 slip stitch in the middle double crochet of the preliminary round (color change is recommended here). Crochet 9 treble crochets in the following chain stitches. 1 slip stitch in the middle double crochet of the preliminary round. The first petal is finished. In this order you will finish the entire round. The flower has 5 petals.

So that the flower receives even more colors, we decorated it with chain stitches (description see above).

8 petals

This flower lives through a colorful play of colors . We started each round with a new color.

1 round:

  • 7 sticks
  • 1 slip stitch

Complete the entire round like this. There are 8 petals .

Sternblume

You can also change the color of this flower in each round.

1 round:

  • thread ring

2nd round: Work 30 sticks in the thread ring.

3rd round: Crochet 3 chain stitches for the 1st double crochet. Work 5 double crochets in the next 5 stitches of the preliminary round. These double crochets are not crocheted individually, but only when all 6 stitches of all 6 double crochets are on the needle. Now the working thread is pulled through all stitches at the same time.

  • 4 chain stitches
  • 1 slip stitch in the next stitch of the preliminary round
  • 3 chain stitches
  • 5 double crochets in the next 5 stitches of the preliminary round
  • 4 chain stitches
  • 1 slip stitch in the following stitch of the preliminary round

We have now worked two flower arches. 3 more sheets have to be worked in this sequence. The round ends with 5 flower arches .

4th round: Around the first three chain stitches of the preliminary round ...

  • Crochet 4 single crochets
  • 1 slip stitch in the top of the crochet double crochet

Work 3 loops - these three loops are all worked in the same mesh hole of the chopstick tip.

4 single crochets around the four chain stitches of the preliminary round. 1 slip stitch between the arches of the preliminary round.

With this flower tip, all five flower arches are crocheted.

  • Insert 1 slip stitch in the beginning

Flower with three layers of flowers

This flower consists of three layers of flowers, all of which are crocheted one after the other.

1 round:

  • thread ring

2nd round: Crochet 8 single crochets in the thread ring.

3rd round: Crochet a bundle of 3 double crochets in each stitch of the preliminary round, which are only crocheted together at the end. In the first bundle, the first double crochet is replaced by 3 chain stitches. Work 3 chain stitches after each bundle.

4th round: In each chain space of the preliminary round ...

  • 1 single crochet
  • 1 half double crochet
  • 3 chopsticks
  • 1 half double crochet
  • Crochet 1 single crochet

In this episode the entire petals work. The first 8 petals of the first flower are created.

5th round: = base for the second layer of flowers

The working thread is pulled between the two petals on the back of the flower. Use this to crochet a slip stitch around the bunch of chopsticks in the third round.

Cast on 5 chain stitches (replace the first two chain stitches with half a double crochet).

Work 1 half double crochet around the next bunch of double crochets in the third round. Cast on 3 chain stitches. In this episode, work all 8 chain stitches as a base for the next blossom.

6th round: = 2nd inflorescence

Work in every chain space of the previous substructure ...

  • 1 single crochet
  • 1 half double crochet
  • 5 sticks
  • 1 half double crochet
  • Crochet 1 single crochet

Crochet all 8 petals in this order. This creates the second petal layer.

7th round: = base for the third layer of flowers

Pull the working thread back between the two petals on the back of the flower. Crochet a slip stitch around the connection between the first and second petals.

Cast on 6 chain stitches (the first two chain stitches replace half a double crochet). Work 1 half double crochet around the next connection of the previous petal layer. Cast on 4 chain stitches. In this episode, work all 8 chain stitches as a base for the next blossom.

8th round: = 3rd flower layer

In every chain space of the previous substructure ...

  • 1 single crochet
  • 1 half double crochet
  • 7 sticks
  • 1 half double crochet
  • Crochet 1 single crochet

In this stitch sequence all 8 petals. This creates the third and last petal layer.

The aster

The aster is an eight-leaf flower in a 3-D look.

1 round:

  • thread ring

2nd round: Crochet 8 single crochets in the thread ring.

3rd round: Crochet 16 half double crochets around these 8 single crochets. This creates a large ring.

4th round: In this round, all petals emerge one after the other.

1. Petal ...

  • 4 chain stitches (replaces 1st double crochet)
  • a double double crochet in the same stitch
  • 4 chain stitches
  • Skip 1 stitch of the preliminary round
  • Work 2 double crochets together in the next stitch

  • Cast on 3 chain stitches (replaces 1st double crochet)
  • Turn work !!

Work 7 treble crochets in chain-space (chain-space consisting of the four chain stitches previously crocheted) = 8 treble crochets. Turn work !!

All 8 petals are crocheted according to this principle. We have now presented you six flowers for the flower garland. All that's missing are the leaves and the green garland itself, on which everything is sewn on.

Crochet leaves

Row 1: Cast on 15 chain stitches in a dark green.
2nd row: 15 single crochets.

3rd row: Continue crocheting in a lighter green. With this change of color you start crocheting in the 4th stitch of the preliminary round, so you crochet 12 stitches for the sheet.

  • 3 chain stitches
  • 1 double crochet
  • 4 triple chopsticks
  • 2 double crochet sticks
  • 2 chopsticks
  • 2 single crochets
  • 3 chain stitches

Crochet 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch. This creates the tip of the sheet.

Crochet on the opposite side of the sheet in the next 12 stitch links ...

  • 2 single crochets
  • 2 chopsticks
  • 2 double crochet sticks
  • 4 triple sticks
  • 1 double crochet
  • 3 chain stitches

Work a slip stitch in the last stitch. Now crochet as many leaves as you want to decorate your garland with.

The green garland

The green garland is the strand on which you will sew all the flowers and leaves. The length therefore depends on the number of flowers . Before crocheting this strand, lay out your flowers in the order you want. You can use this to measure the length of your garland strand.

Tip: If you like the sequence of flowers that is now in front of you on the table or on the floor, take a picture of it. Then you will later know in which order you want to sew the flowers on.

Crochet garland

Cast on chain stitches according to the desired length . Crochet half double crochet in the second half. For the hanging flowers, crochet chain stitches and single crochets. You also decide this length according to your ideas. Now sew all the flowers and leaves on this garland according to your ideas. We used the green thread of the garland for sewing on.
