Wool scraps belong in the garbage ">

Passionate manual workers know the problem: after a few knitting or crocheting projects, masses of wool have accumulated, which are far too good to be thrown away. Use this guide to turn your remaining yarn into small decorative objects.

Wool scraps entangle

Our three ideas are great for knitting tiny pieces of wool because you do not need more than five grams each. Under the heading "Basics" we explain all the knitting techniques you need. You should already know only right and left stitches. Each mini-project takes a maximum of one hour - it is best to make several pieces directly to knit all your colorful wool remnants!

Basics

Knit two stitches together (cap, flower and tealight glass)

Continue with the right needle in the next two stitches and knit as a single stitch.

Envelope (flower and tealight glass)

Lay the thread once over the right needle from the front to the back. In the next row, you handle the envelope like a normal stitch, which means you have created an extra stitch. In the flower, knit three stitches in the envelope in the following row. Reposition the envelope over and over again and let it slide from the left needle until you have finished all stitches as described.

Take off the stitch (flower and tealight glass)

Slide the stitch on the right needle without knitting. Put thread behind the work.

Cover the mesh (flower and tealight glass)

Pull the second stitch on the needle over the first one as if to tap off and drop it.

Kettrand (tealight glass)

Lift off the first stitch in each row, laying the thread before starting work. The last stitch you always knit right.

Idea 1 | Mützchen

You need this knit for the hat:

  • thin to medium-weight wool residues in one or more colors
  • few knitting needles in strength 2, 5
  • wool needle
  • 2 pompon rings with 2 centimeters in diameter

Tip: If you do not have Pompon rings, you can make them yourself. To do this, cut out two circles of cardboard, two centimeters in diameter. From the middle, you then separate out a one-centimeter circle.

Knit caps

The cap from this manual will (depending on the type of wool remnants you entangle) three to four inches high (no pompon). Hit 32 stitches .

Knit ten rows of plain right, alternating one row each of right and left stitches. If you want to streak your cap, change the color at any interval.

Tip: It's normal for a straight-right knit to curl up. Do not worry about it, because the finished hat is that.

In the next rows continue to work smooth right and knit the following stitches together, so that the cap is narrowing towards the top.

11th row: 15th + 16th stitch, 31st + 32st stitch = 30 remaining stitches
12th row: 8th + 9th stitch, 23th + 24th stitch = 28 stitches
13th row: 11th + 12th stitch, 25th + 26th row = 26 stitches
14th row: 10th + 11th stitch, 23th + 24th stitch = 24 stitches
15th row: 5th + 6th stitch, 17th + 18th stitch = 22 stitches
16th row: 1st + 2nd stitch, 5th + 6th stitch, 9th + 10th stitch, 12th + 13th stitch, 16th + 17th stitch, 20th + 21st stitch = 16 stitches

Thread the thread onto a wool needle and pull it through the remaining stitches. Remove the knitting needle and pull the tip of the cap with the thread.

bobble

Thread a few pieces of thread into the wool needle. If your pompon should be multi-colored, combine different colors. Put your pompom rings on top of each other and wrap them with the threads by repeatedly piercing the needle through the hole in the middle. Only stop when there is no longer a thread through.

Now cut all the threads by passing scissors along the outer edge between the two rings.

Place two threads between the rings around the entire pompon, pull them together tightly and secure everything with multiple knots.

Finally, remove the rings and cut the pompon into shape. Hang the long ends of the thread from setting.

Complete

Turn the cap to the left and sew the two side edges of the knit together.

Tip: Begin with the thread from the fence so that the thread end disappears inside the hat. Threading color changes knot your sewing thread before cutting it off.

Lastly, sew the pompon to the top of the hat with the threads hanging from it.

Deco tip: Put the cap on a pine cone.

Possible variations

1. Knit a rib- knit cuff by knitting one right and one left-hand stitch alternately in the first four rows. If you want to change the cuff, extend the cap around these four rows.

2. Attach a tassel to the top instead of a pompom. Lay several wool threads on top of each other, fold them in the middle and bind the kink point firmly. Sew this point on the cap and trim the tassel to the desired length.

3. Decorate the edge of the cap by stitching it with a wool needle and a thread in a beautiful color.

4. Decorate the hat with pearls or sequins to your heart's .

Idea 2 | flower

That's what you need for the flower knit:

  • wool rest
  • a few knitting needles in a size that suits the wool
  • wool needle

Tip: The thicker the yarn you use, the bigger the flower will be. With strength 4 you get a flower with 6 centimeters in diameter.

Knit flower

Make 62 stitches and knit as described below. Repeat all instructions until the end of the row. The asterisks (*) mean that you only work the part between the symbols several times. The stitches in front and behind you work only once at the beginning or end of the series.

1st row: all stitches left

2nd row: 2 stitches on the right, * 1 stitch on the right, push this stitch back onto the left needle, lift the next 9 stitches over the pushed-back stitch and drop, 1 turn-up, the stitch pushed back on the right, 2 stitches on the right * = 22 remaining mesh

3rd row: 1 stitch on the left, * knit 2 stitches on the left, work 1 left, 1 right, and 1 other left stitch in the turn of the previous row, 1 stitch left *, 1 stitch left = 27 stitches

4th row: 1 stitch on the right, * cast off 2 stitches, 1 stitch on the right, pull the 2 off stitches *, 2 stitches on the right = 11 stitches

5th row: * knit 2 stitches left *, 1 stitch left = 6 stitches

6th row: the 2nd to 6th stitch over the 1st draw = 1 stitch

Complete

Pull the thread through the last stitch. From the back, sew the side edges together to form a round flower.

Deco tip: Decorate clothes or bags that you have knitted or bought yourself. With a hanging thread, your Wollreste project will become a decoration for a spring bouquet. Glued to a (homemade) card gives the flower your greetings an individual touch. With a safety pin, the flower is suitable as a brooch.

Idea 3 | Teelichtglas

You need this for the tealight cases:

  • thin wool rest (suitable for needle size 2 ½ to 3)
  • few knitting needles in strength 5
  • wool needle
  • Pins and soft pad for clamping
  • small glass in which fits a tealight

Tip: Knitting with needles that are two steps stronger than your wool, so that the fabric is very loose and the light can shine through well.

Knit tea light envelope

The tealight glass case is knit across. Beat 16 meshes for a seven-centimeter tall glass. If you need another size, try out how many stitches you need to knit.

Tip: You can omit a maximum of two stitches per side or add as many as you like next to the edge stitches. Be sure to evenly change the mesh size on both sides so that the hole pattern sits in the center of the knit.

Start with a series of left stitches before beginning the described circular hole pattern. Knit the edge of the kitten. The edge stitches are no longer listed in the following instructions.

1st row: 6 stitches on the right, 1 stitch off, 1 stitch on the right, pull off the stitched stitch, 1 turn-up, 1 stitch on the left, 1 turn-up, knit 2 stitches on the right, 3 stitches on the right

2nd row: 5 stitches on the left, 1 stitch on the right, 8 stitches on the left

3rd row: 5 stitches on the right, 1 stitch off, 1 stitch on the right, pull off the stitched stitch, 1 turn-up, 3 stitches on the left, 1 turn-up, 2 stitches on the right, 2 stitches on the right

4th row: 4 stitches on the left, 3 stitches on the right, 7 stitches on the left
5th row: like 3rd row
6th row: like 4th row
7th row: like 1st row
8th row: like 2nd row

9th row: 3 stitches on the right, 1 stitch off, 1 stitch on the right, pull off the stitched stitch, 1 turn-up, 1 stitch left, 1 turn-up, knit 2 stitches on the right, 6 stitches on the right

10th row: 8 stitches on the left, 1 stitch on the right, 5 stitches on the left

11th row: 2 stitches on the right, 1 stitch off, 1 stitch on the right, pull off the stitched stitch, 1 turn-up, 3 stitches on the left, 1 turn-up, knit 2 stitches on the right, 5 stitches on the right

12th row: 7 stitches on the left, 3 stitches on the right, 4 stitches on the left
13th row: like 11th row
14th row: like 12th row
15th row: like 9th row
16th row: like 10th row

Repeat the 16 rows of patterns until the piece of knitting fits once around the glass when you stretch it vigorously. End with a row on the left side with the edge of the chain and chain all stitches.

Complete

Your piece of knitting is probably going to be ugly. So that it lies smoothly and the hole pattern comes to advantage, you should stretch it . Moisten it and place it on a soft surface, for example a piece of sponge rubber. Pull it into shape, taking measure on your glass. Tack the edges with pins . Let the fabric dry until the next day.

Finally, sew the cover on the back and slide it over the tealight glass.

Possible variations

Use any other hole pattern. Ideas can be found here, for example: Learn how to knit lace. How many stitches you need depends on how tall your jar is, which pattern you choose, and which pieces of wool you knit. Remember the edge of the edge and always use two thicker needles than the wool requires.
