Diaper cars can take many different forms and are a creative and surprising gift for newly minted parents or expectant mothers. They consist of diapers, a product that is needed in the first months or years in each case. We have put together the best instructions for making the diaper carts for you.

Diaper gifts are imaginative and show the joy of the newborn. They combine two essential qualities of good gifts: functionality and creativity. First of all, the joy of the recipient is great because the diaper wagons are individually designed and always a surprise. They have a lot of design freedom and can give free rein to their creativity. There are basically two different types of diaper car: On the one hand, it may be the replica of a classic baby carriage. Another variant is the construction of a car, so an automobile. By using baby blankets or other suitable objects, you bring color to the construction, such as girls 'pink nappies and blue boys' diapers.

DIY guide for a diaper cart

What you need for a diaper wagon:

  • 80-100 diapers
  • Wool, rubbers, tape
  • wide gift ribbon
  • Bastelfilz
  • dekomaterial
  • two cardboard rolls from kitchen paper
  • optional accessories: baby blanket, pacifier, cuddly toy, toy
  • Costs: depending on "equipment" 15-25 euros

Step 1: Purchase the diapers

First of all you have to buy the diapers. For the construction of this diaper car you need about 80 to 100 diapers. You now have the choice of different sizes, which is not crucial for the construction. However, since the car is later taken apart and "consumed" by the parents, the size of the diapers is important from a functional point of view. If you decide on size 1, then parents have a large supply for the first time. However, the children grow very fast and often parents want to leave the diaper car intact. So that the diapers are still suitable for the little ones even after this time, you can also choose a larger fit.

Step 2: Make a pram wheel

First, start building the stroller wheels. Take five children's diapers and roll them around each other. For this purpose, place the individual diapers one above the other in a slightly offset manner and then roll them up.

Take tape or rubber band and fix the diapers.

Tip: The wheels will rarely be really round. This is not necessary. However, the wheels should have some stability so you can carry the stroller later.

3rd step: Build the three remaining wheels

After building the first wheel, you now have to build the next three wheels. Follow the same principle as for the first wheel. After fixing the wheels with the tape, use decorative ribbon or colored tape to beautify the wheels.

4th step: Pull the wheels onto the axles

Now you have to connect two wheels and one axle with each other. Use one empty kitchen roll for the axes. The diaper wheels are now pulled on the sides of the paper roll.

Tip: If the wheels are too tight for you to push in the paper towel roll, do not use too much force. Instead, try enlarging the opening by slightly pulling the diapers in the middle apart. You can also use the role to hide small gifts in it.

Step 5: Build the body of the car

For the body of the car you need about 20 to 30 diapers. First take 5 diapers each and connect them with tape or rubber. Make a basket of a baby carriage out of diapers. We stacked two packages together and connected them as well. That's what we did with the remaining 10 diapers. Now the body consists of two stacks of 10 diapers each. Wrap the finished basket with a baby blanket, felt or a comforter. Around you can also attach rolled up diaper from the edge.

Step 6: Attach the wheels

Attach the axles with the wheels to the basket. Use adhesive tape or wool for tying.

Accessories and ornaments

Idea 1: A pillow

Take around six to eight diapers. Connect the individual diapers with the aid of adhesive tape. There must be a cuboid cushion.

Tip: Make sure the pillow is as even as possible. If the diapers on one side are thicker than on the other side, then turn over every other diaper, resulting in a regular height.

Idea 2: The stroller hood

The stroller hood is placed on the upper end of the stroller. Use as many diapers as necessary and tie them together. Bend the diapers into the right shape. Outside, two open diapers can be useful as a coat. Simply glue together the construct with the provided diaper closures. By bending you make the shape of a stroller hood. Alternatively, the crafting of a hood made of cardboard is possible. Take a big sheet of cardboard and bend it into the appropriate shape.

With wide gift and fabric ribbons you can cover wool and rubbers - at first glance, the diaper car seems to hold together by itself. Now add toys, toiletries, pacifiers or cuddly toys. Finished is the specially designed diaper car!

DIY guide for a diaper car

1st step: The wheels are made from 2 diapers each. First fold up the two baby diapers.

Step 2: Lay the two diapers on top of each other and fold the package once.

Step 3: Roll up the package now. (lengthwise)

4th step: So that the wheels do not fall apart, fix them with a rubber band. The band is primarily for a secure grip. As a decoration, you can use a wide gift ribbon, which you also wrap around the wheels. Make a total of 4 wheels.

Step 5: Now that the wheels have been completed, start building the bodywork. The basis is a handkerchief box. Pack the box in wrapping paper, colored parcel paper or other suitable material.

Step 6: Turn the box over. Use adhesive tape to glue the wheels. A little blob of hot glue on the deco tape can help too. The wheels are attached to the bottom of the box, two at the front and two at the back.

Step 7: Next, make the cab of the car. It is made of a total of 6 diapers. Fold the nappies in the middle and put them on top of each other. To tie the package, use either two rubber bands or a piece of string.

Step 8: Now all the individual components have been completed and you can put them together to form the cart. Place the cab centered on the box.

Step 9: Take the gauze diaper and fold it to the same width as the driver's cab. Then wrap it around the body of the car and the driver's cab around the tissue box and the diaper package. If you do not have a gauze you can also wrap the driver's cab with a cloth, a blanket or a wide gift ribbon.

Step 10: For a sturdy shape, tie this package. Best suited for this is cord.

Step 11: So that the string is not visible, tie a wide ribbon over it.

Step 12: Now you can decorate the diaper car. For example, you can put a big loop on the car or simulate vehicle lighting. Integrate small gifts such as stuffed animals, toys or pacifiers.

Decorate diaper car

1. Attach vehicle lights: Glue two jars of care cream, such as Penaten, to the front of the car. This gives the appearance of two headlights.

2. Simulate grille: Mounted horizontally on the front, three Baby Q tips look like a real grille. Fix the Q-tips with the help of some adhesive tape.

3. Attach taillights: Two pacifiers represent the taillights of the car. Attach the pacifiers with adhesive strips.

Integrate gifts

You can use the diaper wagon to hand over small gifts for the baby. You have several options for this:

1. Put gifts in the axes (kitchen rolls).

Since the kitchen rolls are hollow and relatively stable inside, you can place small presents at this point. An advantage is the surprise, which arises when the parents "consume" the diaper wagon and come across the gifts. However, there is a risk that they do not look in the tube but use the diapers without looking at the inside of the axles. The risk is especially when it comes to silent gifts, such as a letter with money or a small stuffed animal. Therefore, you should give parents a small indication that there is a surprise in the axles. Even the limited space affects adversely.

2. Hang gifts from outside on the car.

The second option is to hang the gifts on the outside of the car. If you have formed a hollow in a stroller as a basket, then you can also use this as a place for the gifts. The benefits are the increased space available - allowing for larger gifts - and immediate visibility.

Give away a diaper car

What costs are incurred by the diaper cars "> When do I give away the diaper car?

The diaper cars can be given away as part of the baby shower, for example. Or you hand over the gifts to the parents after birth. In any case, make sure that the chosen diaper size is not too small, if the child is already in the world. Children grow very fast at the beginning.

Should I make the diaper wagon myself or have a model made?

Meanwhile, diaper gifts are already sold on the Internet in finished form. However, you should preferably make the diaper car yourself, as this is part of the gift. It is a creative and loving gift, which should only be purchased as a finished product in an emergency. The self-construction, you can also implement creative ideas and have a lot of fun while crafting. You can integrate gifts that are adapted to the tastes of the parents.

A poem as an encore

In America it has been customary for some years to present a poem on baby showers for the diaper cake. Also, the diaper wagon should be presented along with a poem. You can choose a classic poem, choose a funny rhyme or even write a poem yourself. If you have decided on a poem, then choose a particularly beautiful stationery or construction paper. Write the poem with a striking and elegant-looking pen and decorate the letter. Present the poem at the handover and hand over the written form together with the diaper present. Since the diaper wagon is used up at some point, you can stick a photo of the diaper wagon on the letter as a reminder.

Which poems should I choose?

A selection of classical poems, for example by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe can be found here: //www.sprueche-zur-geburt.info/gedichte-zur-geburt/1/
