Poinsettias are great decoration elements for the most reflective time of the year. You can decorate the table or the Christmas tree, the window or the door. Take the design of the stars into your own hands: With our five detailed and well-illustrated DIY instructions, you can create magical accessories - without spending too much money or spending too much time, but with a huge effect!

An unadorned Christmas tree or table, bare windows and doors - absolutely unimaginable at Christmas time. In other words, one or the other decorative element is required. Stars are especially popular - as a typical symbol of the feast of love and family. Of course, you have the opportunity to buy poinsettias (for quite a bit of money) in the trade. Much cheaper, more individual and also connected with fun, however, is the automatic production of different stars from different materials. Whether gold, clay or conventional paper - each variant allows the creation of stable and worth seeing decoration accessories. Even with felt you can make lovely stars with a pleasantly soft surface. Pick your favorite variants and tinker with them!

For each of our poinsettias, you only need a few materials that you may already have in stock at home. Most of the rest can be found cheaply in various online shops and local shops. In addition, the crafting is associated with minimal time. In about 30 to 45 minutes, you have guaranteed to create a variety of beautiful stars that will set you up perfectly for Christmas!

Make Christmas stars out of paper

You need this:

• construction paper
• scissors
• Ruler or Geodreieck
• pencil
• Glue

How to proceed:

Step 1: First cut several equal squares out of the construction paper.

Tip: Good dimensions for the golden poinsettias are for example 10 cm x 10 cm, 15 cm x 15 cm and 20 cm x 20 cm. Just choose different sizes for the stars to make this and the element to decorate (such as the Christmas tree, the window, the door or the table) varied. For every star you need two equal squares.

Step 2: Pick up one of the squares. Fold it twice diagonally and open the fold again. Turn the paper over on the back and fold it twice side by side in the middle. After the last unfolding, you would have to see a center and a diagonal cross on the gold paper.

Step 3: Cut in half the fold lines that run from one edge to the other. So you make a total of four cuts - as seen in our picture.

Tip: To achieve a very accurate result, you should measure the halves with a ruler and mark them discreetly with a pencil.

4th step: Now you can fold the star. Place each cut edge half on the adjacent diagonal.

Step 5: Glue the beams over each other in such a way that a cavity is created in the middle.

Step 6: Repeat the steps with a new but equal square.

Step 7: Finally, glue the second star part offset against the first one. Done is your poinsettia!

Step 8: Make more poinsettias in different sizes and colors according to the same pattern.

Make striped stars out of paper

You need this:

• Din A4 paper (best a slightly thicker variety)
• Ruler or Geodreieck
• pencil
• scissors
• stapler
• Glue

How to proceed:

Step 1: Take a Din A4 paper, a ruler or triangle and a pencil to hand. Place the Din A4 sheet in a horizontal position in front of you on the table and draw 12 strips of 2.5 cm width onto the paper.

Step 2: Cut out the 12 marked strips with scissors.

Step 3: Fold each strip in the middle to get 12 Vs.

Step 4: Now the stapler comes into play. Tackle each strip at its open end. This is how the single stripe looks from the side - reminiscent of a flower blossom.

Tip: If you want to add a noble touch to the poinsettia, use golden pattern clips as connecting elements instead of a tacker.

Step 5: After stapling all the strips together at their open end, join the strips together. You do likewise with the Tacker. Put it in the lower half of the strips. The 12 stacked "flowers" look a bit like an accordion.

Step 6: In order to make the desired star out of the accordion, you must now pack together the beginning and end of the paper structure.

Step 7: Glue the lower halves of the stacked strips together. This will make your star more stable - and it's done after this step!

Tip: If you would like to make a more colorful star, just use colored paper from the beginning or brush the white sheet in your preferred colors and / or patterns before step 1 of our manual.

Playful cut stars made of paper

You need this:

• square paper (plain or patterned, 10 cm x 10 cm, 15 cm x 15 cm or 20 cm x 20 cm)
• scissors

How to proceed:

Step 1: Pick up a square piece of paper.

Tip: You can also use normal Din A4 paper. Then you just need to cut one square out of it (four equal sides).

Step 2: Fold the square to the triangle. Simply take a corner and fold it diagonally to the opposite corner.

Step 3: Place the triangle in front of you like a pyramid (the tip points up, the horizontal edge towards you).

4th step: Fold the right corner to the top.

5th step: Fold the left corner to the top.

Step 6: Fold back the left side of the current structure. This creates a triangle again, but a smaller one than in step 2.

Step 7: Place the construct in pyramid style again (the tip points up, the horizontal edge towards you).

Step 8: Grab the scissors and cut the ground spikes on the left as shown in our picture. The exact lengths of the prongs do not matter much. Design them as you please.

Attention: You have to cut the ground spikes on the open side of the triangle, otherwise the whole thing will fall apart.

Step 9: Cut the horizontal area in different shapes. Again, there are no rules. Be creative!

Step 10: Then you have to cut in the missing side of the triangle. Let your ideas run free!

Step 11: Open the paper. The playful cut star is ready and waiting for many brothers!

Make standing stars from construction paper

You need this:

• square construction paper (15 cm x 15 cm, best to use some firmer material)
• Ruler or Geodreieck
• pencil
• scissors
• eraser

How to proceed:

Step 1: Take a sheet of square clay paper, a ruler or triangle and a pencil to hand. Divide the sheet into nine small squares. To do this, always draw a line after 5 cm - work both horizontally and vertically.

Step 2: Then mark the points. For this purpose, draw in four squares crossing diagonal lines. Just look at our picture, then nothing can go wrong.

Step 3: Grab the scissors and cut out the teeth. Always cut out only the upper triangles of the previously marked square crosses. Be sure to work hard to really just remove the parts that should go away.

Step 4: Carefully remove the remaining pencil lines with eraser.

Step 5: Cut the star between two big points to the middle.

Tip: For an accurate result, it is best to once again use a ruler or set square and pencil to determine the center.

Step 6: Repeat steps 1 through 5 with another square construction paper that has the same dimensions as the first sheet.

Step 7: Insert the two single stars into each other via the openings. Now your star is finished and can stand without any help!

Craft felted Christmas stars

You need this:

• Felt in bright red, dark red and white (or other colors)
• Working creatively
• pencil
• scissors
• Hot glue gun
• punch

How to proceed:

Step 1: Pick up felt, stencil and pencil. Transfer the shapes of the template to the felt. For the big star (white in our case) use the larger ones, for the smaller star (red) use the smaller ones. For each poinsettia you need the star shape and five times the "petals".

Step 2: Cut out the marked shapes with scissors.

Step 3: Glue the individual petals together at their base. Use the hot glue gun for this purpose.

Step 4: Then glue five petals to one star each (white to white, red to red).

Tip: Arrange the leaves loosely first and glue them together one after the other with the hot glue gun.

Step 5: Using a punch, punch out five pistils for each star (felt in red for the white, felt in white for the red star).

Step 6: Glue a stamp on the base of each petal. Finished are the pretty stars made of felt, which are so easy to make and make a wonderful table decoration!
