Santa Claus is next to the Christ Child THE symbol for the most beautiful party of the year. It is offered as a decorative element in every imaginable variant - often at extreme prices. So it's best to lend a hand and make your own Santa Claus. There are many different possibilities. We present four simple and magical versions in the form of detailed instructions with helpful templates!

When putting together the ideas, variety was important to us. So here are four very different ways to make Santas as home decorations or as gifts for loved ones.

Santa Claus from an apple

Materials:

  • Red Apple
  • walnut
  • wadding
  • toothpick
  • red sheet of paper
  • scissors
  • Glue
  • pencil
  • ruler
  • black edding
  • water glass
  • red pompom

Step 1: Clean the apple and remove the stem.

Step 2: Insert a toothpick into the bottom of the walnut (about 2 cm deep).

Step 3: Connect the walnut to the top of the apple. Simply insert the free part of the toothpick into the apple from above.

Tip: The walnut acts as the head, the apple as the body of Santa Claus.

Step 4: Place a standard, 250 ml, glass of water on a piece of red paper and trace the curve with a pencil.

Step 5: Cut out the circle with scissors.

Step 6: Mark the center of the circle (using a ruler) and cut it in half.

Tip: If you only want to make a Santa Claus, you can give away one of the resulting halves. You only need one part of the circle per creation.

Step 7: Turn one of the halves of the circle into a cone and glue it together.

Tip: The cone forms the hat of Santa Claus.

Step 8: Glue some cotton wool onto the cone - a kind of pompom at the top, a wreath at the bottom.

Step 9: Glue the cap on the walnut.

10th step: Pluck a new, larger piece of cotton into a longer triangle.

Tip: The Wattedreieck is Santa's beard.

Step 11: Make a mustache out of fresh cotton - do not forget to twirl it in the middle and on the edges a little bit.

Step 12: Glue the ingredients of the barts to the walnut. Make sure that a small gap is visible between the mustache and the beard (as a "placeholder" for the mouth).

Step 13: Paint two eyes with black edding on the walnut (and, if you want, also a mouth).

Step 14: Finally, we have stuck a small red puffle as a nose. Done is Santa!

Santa Claus as a window picture

Materials:

  • Craft paper or cardboard in the colors red, white, black and gold, light brown etc.
  • Glue (preferably as a stick)
  • our template
  • copy paper

  • pencil
  • scissors
  • black felt-tip pen

Step 1: Print our Santa Claus templates on ordinary A4 copy paper.

Step 2: Cut out the individual elements with scissors. The duplicate elements can only be cut once, since they act as a template.

Step 3: Transfer each part with pencil to the color-matched construction paper or the sound board. For example:

  • Red: body, arms
  • Brown or black: hands and feet, belt
  • Nature: face
  • White: brims, hair and beard
  • Gold: bag, buckle

Just let your creativity run wild.

Step 4: Cut out all items.

Step 5: Now glue the elements of Santa Claus together adequately.

a) Start with the legs. On these shoes and brims are glued.

b) The legs are glued to the body from behind. This is already decorated with the belt and the buckle.

c) Glue the bag to the body.

d) Then attach arm (me hand and brim) to the body over the bag, as well as the face and beard.

e) Now stick the hair to the back of the face, as well as the second hand from the back to the bag.

f) On the face then cap with brim and pompom are glued.

g) Last but not least, the nose that is glued to the beard is missing. The brows are on the forehead.

Step 6: Add a felt-tip pen to your eyes and mouth.

Now you can fix your finished decoration on the window!

Tip: Santa Claus can be made just as well from felt, if you prefer to work with this material.

Christmas puppet

Materials:

  • thicker construction paper
  • Sample clips
  • yarn
  • Pearl with a small hole
  • possibly colored or felt-tip pens
  • sharp scissors
  • Glue
  • Lochzange
  • our template
  • copy paper
  • printer

Step 1: Print our originals on classic copy paper.

  • Santa Claus - template as a jumping jack - for coloring

Step 2: Glue the two A4 sheets on a stable construction paper of appropriate size.

Tip: We recommend carton of cornflakes packaging. This is stable enough and can be cut out well.

Step 3: Cut the outlines of the different parts with scissors.

4th step: punch out these holes with a punch.

Important: Work very carefully here so as not to spoil your work.

5th step: Depending on which template you have decided, the items must now be painted.

Step 6: Connect the elements with pattern clamps.

Tip: The larger holes are relevant (the smaller ones on the arms and legs as well as on the head you need in the next steps otherwise).

Step 7: Join the arms with red yarn. How to proceed:

a) Cut off enough yarn thread.
b) Thread the thread through the small armholes on the back and knot them at the ends.

Make sure that Santa's arms are hanging down.

Step 8: Now connect the legs in the same way.

Step 9: Cut off a matching piece of yarn as the connecting element of the arm and leg threads. Tie this new thread vertically to the arm and leg threads (in each case in the middle).

Important: The new thread must be so long that it overhangs a few centimeters below.

Step 10: Attach the bead to the bottom of the string.

Tip: This step does not necessarily have to be, but with a pearl, your work looks more beautiful and the Christmas juggler is easier to set in motion.

Step 11: Last but not least, cut off a piece of yarn that you knot at the hat. With it you can hang your creation.

Done is the Santa Claus who invites you to play, who will certainly delight your children!

Make Origami Santa Claus

You need:

  • Origami paper (two-tone: for example, red and white)
  • bonefolder
  • markers

Step 1: Place the origami paper with the patterned side on the table. Then fold a diagonal open it again.

Step 2: Then fold the vertical and horizontal center line of the square. Both folds are opened again.

Step 3: Now apply the paper to the back. Lay it in such a way that the diagonal fold runs from top left to bottom right. The middle fold is then horizontal. Then fold the bottom edge up to the horizontal centerline. This fold is opened again.

Step 4: Then fold the right edge towards the vertical centerline and open the fold as well.

Step 5: Apply the paper again. Place it on the table in front of you so that the diagonal is vertical and the crossed folds are facing you.

Step 6: Fold the down corner to the center. Open the fold.

Step 7: Then fold this corner up again, but this time only until the fold from step 6.

Step 8: The corner is unfolded and folded up again until the fold line from step 7.

Step 9: Now hit the corner until the next line. Then hit the corner again.

Step 10: The paper is turned on the back. Fold the paper together with both hands left and right in this way.

Step 11: Turn Santa around 180 °. The corner now pointing down folds up.

Step 12: Fold the newly folded-up tip one to two centimeters down and zig-zag it up again and down again.

Step 13: The paper is turned. Flip the left and right tips up to the middle.

Step 14: The right and left tips are now folded inwards to the vertical.

Note: For this you have to work a little harder because the paper has now been folded several layers.

Step 15: Now fold the tip pointing down a bit.

Step 16: Origami Santa now only needs eyes, nose, mouth and buttons. You can easily paint them with felt pens. Finished!
