Remove waterproof edding from glass, wood and plastic

Who doesn't know that ">

Waterproof edding is not easy to remove. Felt-tip pens can be wiped away quite well with a little hot water, but this is not the case with these variants. The color is such that it can only be removed with the right means. It becomes difficult on certain materials that absorb the color particularly easily. These include plastics, wood and glass, which are often soiled by edding . Even adults, when drawing or writing notes, can cause the felt-tip pen to slip off the paper and smear the desk. In this case, you need the appropriate methods to remove the waterproof edding.

Remove waterproof edding

Utensils and materials

An important aspect before cleaning the corresponding surface is the provision of materials and utensils that make the use of the individual methods significantly easier for you. Above all, this includes the means for post-treatment of the surface so that it shines again. It is also important to protect your skin from contact with some cleaning agents, as they can be quite aggressive. This is particularly recommended for sensitive skin. The following list gives you an overview of the necessary materials and utensils, which you should use together with the appropriate means for the individual methods.

  • cotton cloths
  • microfiber cloths
  • dish-washing gloves

water

In addition, it is never wrong if you have some warm water available for post-processing. Make sure that you do not use sponges with a rough side or similar cleaning materials. These could scratch the surface, which could be the case with glass and plastic in particular. The other materials used to remove waterproof edding are explained in the relevant sections.

cleaning paste

As an alternative to the help below, you can use the cleaning paste from the supplier whose eddings you used. If it was a waterproof edding from the company of the same name, you need to purchase the paste with the number 8860. A can with a content of 125 grams costs between 20 and 25 euros depending on the shop. The paste can be used on all surfaces, making it ideal for this purpose.

Note: If you have used cloths or cloths for cleaning or wiping and they are a little dirty afterwards, you should wash them as soon as possible. Let the dirt residue take effect, it may be that you need these special agents to get them clean again.

preparation

Preparation is important so that you do not accidentally use the wrong detergents on the unsuitable materials. It can often happen that you have, for example, a glass table with plastic elements that are attacked by the much more aggressive glass cleaners.

In this case, you must always check carefully whether there is a transition to a different material and treat the individual sections accordingly with a different cleaning agent. In this way you protect the surfaces and achieve a satisfactory result faster. This is particularly important for windows and doors, which can often be a combination of wood and glass.

Tip: Waterproof edding is also known under the term permanent marker, since in most cases eddings with moisture-resistant paint are sold under this term. As a result, you know exactly whether you need to be more careful when using the felt-tip pen so as not to contaminate the surface or the corresponding surface.

Instructions | Remove edding from glass

Glass is one of the simplest materials if you want to remove waterproof edding. Since it is a very robust and weakly susceptible material, you do not have to do without aggressive agents. You can even use different types of alcohol to remove the waterproof edding and have a clear pane in front of you again.

Be careful not to use too much force when applying the agents. You don't want the pane to shatter or break. The following home remedies are useful for removing edding on different types of glass.

deodorant

Deodorant is a secret favorite when there are problems with permanent markers. It is easy to apply and wipe away, which works particularly well with glass, which can be treated a little more "rough". Deodorant works best if you spray it thinly on the edding and leave it on for a short time. During this time, the color pigments detach from the glass and only need to be wiped off. A microfiber cloth that is slightly damp is used for this. In this way, you have removed the waterproof edding with little effort. Make sure that it is a spray deodorant. Other deodorant does not work.

spirit

Spiritus is a household classic that is ideal for removing permanent markers. Since you only need a small amount of alcohol, you can clean larger panes in this way. The effort remains quite low, as the spirit works immediately after application and does not even have to act for a long time. You can simply use a little more force here to remove the alcohol along with the waterproof edding. Even rubbing is allowed.

benzine

Last but not least, you can bet on white spirit. White spirit has good properties to remove waterproof edding and is used in the same way as alcohol . You don't have to apply a lot of white spirit to get the desired effect. If necessary, use a little more force to work against the edding.

Glass is very compliant when it comes to removing edding. The numerous home remedies make cleaning much easier and can be carried out within a few moments. This way, you don't even have to wait long to fight the smearers.

Instructions | Remove edding from wood

Compared to other materials, wood is significantly more sensitive and only tolerates a few agents, since too many of them react aggressively to the nature of the natural raw material. For this reason, it is difficult to remove waterproof edding from wood with a few methods. In addition, you have to be very careful with wood and use as little cleaning agent as possible, so as not to burden it unnecessarily. The following two methods are useful for removing waterproof edding.

toothpaste

Toothpaste is the best solution to remove dirt from edding. Since toothpaste does not affect the wood too much, you can use it without hesitation and even leave it on for a longer period of time. It is also very easy to apply and remove, which makes this method very popular. Gel-free, white toothpastes are particularly suitable. Small amounts are applied to the edding with a damp cloth and rubbed in gently. Don't use too much force. After a short wait, wipe the wooden surface with a damp, clean cloth. If necessary, simply repeat this until the edding is completely gone.

rubbing alcohol

The use of cleaning alcohol is also suitable for wood. Use a cleaning alcohol with a slightly lower alcohol content to protect the material but not to lose the effect of the agent. Wet a fresh cloth with a little alcohol and apply it on the spot. Now it is important not to rub it in, but only to put it on the edding. After a short wait, remove the alcohol and the remains of the edding with a damp cloth and wipe well over the area again. All alcohol should be gone so that the wood can relax again.

No matter which method you have chosen, you may have to repaint the corresponding area afterwards. Many varnishes are not really resistant to toothpaste and cleaning alcohol, which could make repainting necessary. However, this is only important if the stain is present in an obvious location that is always eye-catching. In the long run, this can be annoying.

Tip: If the painted wood is a strong oil like teak, you can try it with a little hot water. Woods containing oil or tannins have a natural protective film against external influences and can only be painted or varnished with difficulty, which often makes the effect of permanent markers significantly more difficult and makes it possible to use water to remove them.

Instructions | Remove edding from plastic

If it is a plastic surface, you have to pay much more attention to the agent that is used. For example, not every alcohol can be used with a certain type of plastic and would attack and slowly decompose it. For this reason, waterproof edding is removed from plastic with gentle means so as not to damage it, which can easily happen. This affects silicone in particular because the surface is not as smooth as with other plastics. No matter what type of plastic it is, the following methods are excellent for removing waterproof edding.

Spezialradierer

It is best to use a special eraser for the edding. This is an eraser that is used for gel inks or other stubborn variants and can therefore be used excellently for edding. However, it only acts on plastic, since it breaks up the color pigments without problems and erases them as a result. This makes it easy to remove the waterproof edding with little effort. Depending on the version, special erasers are available for prices of one to two euros. They are also listed under the term rubbing pin.

hair spray

Using hairspray to remove a waterproof edding is extremely easy. The hairspray has ingredients that remove the pigments from the plastic in the edding and simply have to be wiped off after use. Spray a thin layer of the spray on the edding and let it take effect for a short time. Then take a damp cloth to help and wipe the hairspray thoroughly.

Acetone-based nail polish remover

Yes, with nail polish remover, edding can be removed without major problems. This should have acetone. As with hairspray, apply a thin layer of nail polish remover to the edding and then wipe it thoroughly. You don't need to let it soak because it should work immediately. Repeat this step as often as necessary.

If you choose these methods, you should start with the eraser, then use the hairspray and finally the nail polish remover . In this way you play it safe that the material is not attacked after all.
