Even if you do not hesitate for a long time after noticing a tomato stain, but should react as quickly as possible, a few preliminary considerations are necessary - otherwise you aggravate the problem rather than solving it (in the truest sense).
First, answer the question as to what kind of tomato stain it is. The following overview shows the potential stain variations and also gives information about the degree of tenacity.

a) Stain of pure tomatoes: The juice of fresh tomatoes contains only a small amount of colorant. Accordingly, the stain can be removed easily.

Remove fresh tomato stains

Depending on the cause of the fresh tomato stain, you will need to adjust the steps a bit. This will prevent the stain from penetrating deeper into the tissue. Of course we always point out the required modification.

Step 1: Dab off excess red liquid carefully from the affected textile. Best use kitchen paper or a knife back.

Important: Dab, do not rub - otherwise the stain will be more tight in the tissue.

Step 2: Soak the textile in

• carbonated mineral water OR
• a solution of tap water and enzyme-containing detergent and leave to act for 30 minutes.

ATTENTION: In case of tomato stains with oil or other fat you should use cold water during the pretreatment. Operate with warm water, the fat settles in the tissue. We advise you to dab the stain with enzyme detergent - it will attack oil and grease directly - and then rinse with cold water.

Even with a tomato stain with vinegar and / or sugar caution is advised. Too hot water causes the sugar crystals to caramelize and stick deep in the tissue. Therefore, it is advisable to proceed with lukewarm water against the stain.

Step 3: Rinse the fabric with cold to lukewarm water, depending on the type of stain.

But beware: Colored fabrics run the risk of bleaching. For this reason, it is advisable to expose only bright textiles with dried tomato stains from the blazing sun.

vinegar

Vinegar is one of the most popular home remedies when it comes to cleaning different things. He has also proven himself in the removal of stubborn tomato stains. Sprinkle the stain with vinegar. Leave to soak for about ten minutes, rinse the fabric and put in the washing machine.

Gallseife

Gall soap works even more effectively. It is a natural product consisting only of core soap and bovine bile and is considered a true miracle cure in terms of stain removal.

This is how it works:

Step 1: Moisten the tomato stain with water and then gently rub it with gall soap.
Step 2: Let the soap work for about ten minutes.
Step 3: Wash the soap out of the textile.
Step 4: Rub the remainder of the stain with gall soap once more.
Step 5: Let it work again for ten minutes.
Step 6: Place the textile in the washing machine as usual (do not wash out before)!

Shaving cream is something of an insider tip for removing dried tomato stains. Spray the foam on the stain and massage it gently (do not rub too hard!). Wait five to ten minutes. Then remove the residue of the foam (and the dissolved tomato stain) with a damp cloth or vacuum with a vacuum cleaner.

Important: For all home remedies, you should first test in an inconspicuous place, whether the respective textile at all with it. This will prevent your precious pieces of fabric taking more damage (which can happen if the material does not tolerate the medium optimally).

glycerin

Glycerine is a trivalent alcohol that is found in almost all natural oils and other fats and cheap in the pharmacy / drugstore is available. Moisten the stain with a mix of water and glycerine (mixing ratio 1: 1). Then let it work for ten minutes and put the textile in the washing machine.

bleach

Even bleaches have the potential to completely remove red fruit stains. But beware: Use it with white textiles, otherwise your colored fabrics will fade too.

For sensitive fabrics, you should always refer to suitable (proven) products from the trade or bring the respective textile with the tomato stains in the cleaning. Do not use any of the home remedies - this could have fatal consequences!

Insensitive garments - such as polyester or cotton - are less demanding. Very often it is sufficient to use one of the described methods (pay attention to the detailed instructions in the text!) To completely eliminate an unsightly tomato stain.

To remove a tomato stain from a carpet, shaving cream is well suited. Alternatively, powder detergent is also suitable. Sprinkle this on the stain and gently rub it with a hand brush and warm water until it lathers properly. Leave for 30 minutes. Finally, wipe off the remains with a damp cloth.
