For babies to knit a baby jumpsuit or romper - this is for all knitting fans to the knitting, which are knitted with joy and special love. We also want to help beginners to knit a baby bodysuit for the little wonneproppen with our guide.

Romper for babies are included in every first-time outfit. The baby jumpsuit or the romper keeps the little babies warm, they are well packed and still have plenty of freedom of movement. With our guide you can knit a romper that grows with you, gives your legs lots of freedom and keeps you warm. Step by step, we'll show you how to knit a romper even as a beginner.

Our Knitting Pattern "Knitting Romper " is intended for the baby size 62 to 68 . This corresponds approximately to a baby's age of 3 to 6 months.

But again, every baby is individually big or small, heavy or light. Accordingly, the sizes of babies are not always transferable.
It is therefore often better for self-made baby clothes to follow the centimeter specifications.

We have drawn a pattern for our romper, which is equipped with the necessary centimeter information. This makes it easier for you to determine if you can follow our stitching instructions, or if you need to stitch, increase or decrease more or less stitches. If you want to knit a baby jumpsuit or romper, such a pattern is a great help.

Tip: It is important that you knit a knit with your knitting yarn or your knitting yarn before the knitting begins. From this stitch test you can calculate exactly how many stitches you need to knit with your yarn for 1 centimeter.

Material and preparation

When knitting baby jumpsuits and romper, it's like any self-made baby clothes, you should put a lot of emphasis on wool or knitting yarn. For babies, use only wool that is soft, light and free of harmful substances.

In handicraft shops or special wool shops, there are yarns that are tailored to the needs of small babies. We decided on this romper for a baby yarn made of acrylic. It is a super soft yarn, very easy to clean and has its own color gradients. This gives the romper a lively character. For the foot cuffs and the romper bib we have used a matching monochrome wool.

Our yarn corresponds to the Rico Design Baby Dream or Rico Design Baby Classic. Both yarns are from wool roedel. We knitted with a double pointed needles and a circular needle, each with a thickness of 3.5 mm. With this yarn you can knit a baby jumpsuit or a romper, which is intended for the cold season. We wanted to knit a warm and slightly thicker romper.

You can also use this guide to knit a summer romper. Just use a thinner cotton yarn and the baby bodysuit will feel airy.

Tip: Alone with the yarn, you can change the size of the baby jumpsuit. If you use a thicker yarn and thicker needles with the same number of stitches, the baby bodyshell automatically becomes larger. If you use a thinner yarn and thinner needles, the work will be smaller.

According to our instructions you need:

  • 150 grams of baby wool with a running length of 244 meters / 100 grams
  • 1 short round needles of 3.5 mm (the rope should not be longer than 20 centimeters)
  • 1 needle size 3.5 mm
  • 2 buttons

knitting patterns

The presented romper is knitted only with right stitches. Up to the height of the bib is worked with the circular needle or the needle game in rounds. The gauntlets, the armholes as well as the carriers are knitted alternately from right and left stitches as in the ribbed pattern.

For the stitching on the cuffs we have chosen a very elastic stitch, the Norwegian stitching. In this video tutorial, this particular attack is very well explained, so even beginners can easily knit it. But, it does not necessarily mean knitting this Norwegian stitch. You can also work your usual stop.

Tip: In order for the simple cross-stroke to be slightly more elastic, use two needles to hit the stitches. After striking, pull a needle out of work again.

Knit romper in size 62/68

Knit the romper from the bottom up. That is, you start with one foot, then work the second foot and connect both feet with the increase for the crotch.

cuffs

Mesh stop - 1st round

  • Cast on 42 stitches on a needle from the double pointed needles.

2nd round

In this round, the 42 stitches are split into four needles and connected together.

Knitting is done in the ribbed pattern:

  • 1 stitch on the right
  • 1 stitch left.
  • Needle 1 and 3 = 10 stitches
  • Needle 2 and 4 = 11 stitches

3rd round

Knit the cuffs up to a height of 8 centimeters, alternating 1 stitch on the right and 1 stitch on the left.

After 8 centimeters cuff pattern begins the little leg.

leg

From the leg to the bib only right stitches are knitted. Knit 2 rounds only right stitches. After these 2 rounds there is the first stitch increase on the leg.

Each needle work like this:

  • 2 stitches on the right
  • 1 stitch increase
  • knit all stitches to the right until the 3rd last stitch
  • 1 stitch increase
  • Needle 1 + 3 = 12 stitches
  • Needle 2 + 4 = 13 stitches

With this increase in stitching, the leg gets a bit wider and more airy.

To add right-hand stitches without creating a hole: lift the cross thread between the two stitches on the needle as shown in the picture. To knit the cross thread this must be raised slightly so that you can stab with the needle better. Now knit the cross thread as the right stitch.

After the first increase in the leg, knit 10 centimeters with right stitches up the leg. Only after these 10 centimeters does the second increase in the step. The baby gets so much legroom.

Needle 1

  • knit all stitches to the right

Needle 2

  • knit all stitches to the right
  • before the last two stitches
  • 1 stitch increase
  • 1 stitch on the right
  • 1 stitch increase
  • 1 stitch on the right

Needle 3

  • 1 stitch on the right
  • 1 stitch increase
  • 1 stitch on the right
  • 1 stitch increase
  • all remaining stitches right

Needle 4

  • all stitches right

Three rounds only knit right stitches. After these three rounds again a round with stitch increase.

  • Needle 1: knit all stitches to the right
  • Needle 2 and needle 3: increase the stitches as before
  • Needle 4: knit all stitches to the right

The next round only work right stitches. Knit the second leg in exactly the same order

The step

For the crotch, place the two legs side by side so that the increases are exactly opposite each other.

Continue to knit the right leg up to the needle you have picked up on, so that you can arrive at the crotch with the work thread. Now take 4 loops on this needle. These will be the new step stitches. Knit on the same needle also the needle of the second leg - with the opposite stitches.
Now you can go over to the circular needle. Simply replace each needle with the circular needle. Also pick up 4 stitches on the back of the legs at the crotch. Continue knitting with the right stitch.

body

After the step, knit 13 centimeters with straight stitch straight up. When knit romper be removed for the waist on the right and left of the body stitches. To do this, mark the front with a stitch aid (a single thread is sufficient). Now halve the total number of stitches so that you have the same number of stitches on the front and back.

Place 2 stitch markers on the right and left so that 2 stitches are in the middle of these two markers.

The following 13 rounds are knitted as follows:

Round 1

  • Knit right stitches.
  • Knit 2 stitches in front of the 1st stitch marker on the right
  • 2 stitches on the right
  • Knit 2 stitches together after the 2nd stitch marker

The first stitch is lifted, the second stitch knitted, and the lifted stitch is pulled over the knitted stitch. Knit right stitches to the 3rd and 4th stitch markers. In doing so, knit the two stitches in front of it together again,
Knit the intervening stitches to the right, knit the two stitches over the marker.

Round 2 and 3

  • Only right stitches work without acceptance

Round 4

  • a weight loss round like in round 1

Round 5 and 6

  • knit right stitches without loss.

Work in this order until lap 13. After each weight loss, knit two rounds to the right. After this last weight loss round. Knit 1 round normal right.

The hole pattern

At the upper part of the body we work a hole pattern. You can knit it, but you can omit it. It is intended for the babies, who are still a bit narrower. After the rompers have been completed, a drawstring can be pulled into the hole pattern. With this cord, the baby bodysuit is completely adapted to the baby's waist size.

A round hole pattern:

  • 1 envelope
  • Knit 2 stitches together to the right
  • 6 stitches on the right
  • 1 envelope
  • Knit 2 stitches together to the right
  • 6 stitches on the right
  • Work the whole round in this order.
  • The envelope is knit in the next round as the right stitch.
  • Knit 2 turns to the right.

chest

We knit the entire chest area with the two bibs in alternation of right and left stitches, as in the rib pattern.

  • 1 stitch on the right
  • 1 stitch left
  • Knit 4 centimeters high in this episode

The armhole

For the armholes after the 4 centimeters rib pattern on the right and left side of the romper each 8 stitches are chained off. The work is shared.
Count the number of stitches in the entire round again and divide by two.
So you have an equally wide front and back. Continue knitting with the needle using three short needles. On both sides - right and left - chain 8 stitches for the armholes.

Your stitches are now on two needles:

  • 1 needle for the front part of the bib
  • 1 needle for the back part of the little bib

The front and back are individually knitted together.

The bib

Knitt the entire bib on both sides alternating between right and left stitches.

  • 1 stitch on the right
  • 1 stitch left

Tip: Always knit the edge stitches as a right-hand stitch.

Turn to work. Just take off the first stitch and continue to knit as normal. You will get a clean edge mesh edge. The front part of the bib we knitted a total of 11 inches high. The back part is knitted two centimeters higher. Bind off the mesh cleanly.

completion

The baby bodysuit is almost finished.

After both bibs - front and back - finished knitted and are chained off, the armholes are still knitted. To do this, pick up all the edge stitches and the 8 stitches of the removed armhole on two needles. You are welcome to take something generous, that is, in between two stitches instead of one. The armhole should not restrict the baby.

Now knit these stitches alternating right and left stitches. In the first round the right stitches of the picture are knitted on the right side. So no small holes are formed and the stitches are tight on the needle.

Work 4 rows in a rib pattern. Bind off all stitches loosely. On the second sleeve side you knit exactly the same.

The carriers

  • Pick up 11 stitches at the top of the bib
  • Turn to work
  • 1 edge stitch
  • 1 stitch on the right
  • 1 stitch left
  • 1 stitch on the right
  • ....
  • Knit the edge stitch on the right.
  • Turn to work
  • Only lift off the edge stitch.
  • Knit the stitches of the back row as they appear.
  • Knit the edge stitch right again.

buttonholes

In the carrier height of 11 centimeters, we have each worked a buttonhole.

  • edge stitch
  • Knit 3 stitches
  • Bind off 2 stitches
  • Knit 4 stitches
  • edge stitch

In the back row the stitches are knitted as they appear. For the chained stitches, place two slings on the needle. Knit these loops in the following row as right and left stitch. After the buttonholes work 4 rows. Bind off all stitches.

Now you just have to sew 2 matching buttons on the front bib and sew all the threads. You can easily make the cord yourself with the remaining yarn and your hand mixer. Knitting a baby jumpsuit or romper is a simple matter with this guide.
