Home remedies are much more suitable and should be preferred in addition to basic detergent cleaning. What is important when cleaning the glass panes is the type of wipes you use. Many people rely on kitchen paper or a newspaper when drying after cleaning. These are not really suitable for this, since they usually leave streaks.

The following wipes are very suitable:

  • microfiber cloths
  • shammy

Due to the surface, they absorb moisture much better and ensure that it is not spread over the pane, as is often the case with kitchen or cotton towels. Of course, all towels should be as clean as possible, otherwise you will spread more dirt on the glass. This also applies to the other cleaning utensils . Glass panes are very susceptible to different types of dirt. If you can handle a window puller, this is also suitable for drying. Just remember to use it all at once.

Tip: Only use new microfiber or window cleaning cloths when spring cleaning of the windows is due. The towels form fluff after the first wash, which makes cleaning the glass panes much more difficult and often requires a second pass.

Clean glass panes on a cloudy day

Step 1: You need suitable cleaning water to clean glass panes. For the basic cleaning only detergent is used that you mix with lukewarm water in a bowl or bucket. This should be clean. You only need a little washing-up liquid as this works effectively even in small quantities.

Step 2: Use the hand brush and sweep once thoroughly over the glass pane. The quickest way to remove dust, hair and coarse dirt is with the hand broom.

Step 3: Dip the sponge into the washer fluid and then wring it out a little. It should still be a little damp so that enough washer fluid gets on the window. If the glass is upright, either place a large cloth or a plastic bag under it. This will prevent the soil under the pane from being submerged.

Step 4: Now wipe the sponge thoroughly with the sponge. It doesn't matter whether you are cleaning in circles or lanes. The entire pane should be wetted to remove the grease film and co. Use a little force to effectively deal with possible dirt.

Step 5: Then go again in lines from top to bottom or right to left over the glass pane. This will remove more dirt. Then take a drying towel and also go straight over the pane once. It should be a little damp after this step as it will be polished afterwards. If you use a puller, use it only once in one place. If the puller is pulled over a point several times, this can lead to streaks or streaks.

Step 6: As soon as the pane has dried, check it for further dirt or grease stains. If the disc is clean, use a fresh cloth to polish the disc. To do this, go over the glass with gentle movements to ensure a better view. With opaque glass, it is sometimes difficult to tell whether the polishing is effective. In this case, simply go over the glass panes again.

If you can still see dirt, you must use another detergent to clean the glass panes. Especially with grease stains and the like, the detergent is sometimes not sufficient. In the following sections, appropriate home remedies are presented that you can use for cleaning and have established themselves as alternatives.

Remove grease film etc. from glass panes: 3 home remedies

If you are still struggling with the grease film and the like after basic cleaning, three home remedies are available for further care. For this reason, sometimes harder guns have to be used to clean the glass panes. The home remedies are just as easy to use as the rinse water for basic cleaning. They are only applied differently. Instructions | Eraser

An easy-to-use and often overlooked home remedy for cleaning glass panes are dirt erasers. Since glass is a smooth surface, even if it is textured, the dirt eraser can be used to remove coarse stains or deposits. Even adhesive residues can be removed completely in combination with a scraper.

The cost of a dirt eraser is around one euro depending on the brand and size. They are usually contained in packages of five to ten pieces. Once you've gotten a dirt eraser, follow these instructions to clean the glass panes.

Step 1: After thorough cleaning and the first drying, locate the stains that could not be removed. Dirt erasers only work in individual areas and are difficult to use across the entire disc. For this reason, you have to remove each stain individually.

Step 2: Run the dirt eraser thoroughly over the individual stains. Depending on the type, you have to use more or less force for a stain.

Step 4: Finally dry and polish again. The stains should now be completely gone and the window clean.

Instructions | linseed oil

Linseed oil is used to clean glass panes when they are matt. Sometimes it can happen that after a long neglect of care glass panes become matt and no longer clean with brushes or detergent. In this case you should try linseed oil as the ingredients in the oil are effective against the matte veil. The cloudiness is mainly caused by moisture, pollen and dust, against which linseed oil can be used. The following instructions make it easier for you to use.

Use linseed oil

Step 1: Use a cotton cloth to apply the linseed oil. Even if it is fluffing, it can be used for cleaning.

Step 2: Put a little of the linseed oil on the cotton cloth and apply it to the disc. You can either treat only the matt areas or the entire glass pane. Since the veil appears in most cases on the entire pane, it is clearly noticeable if you only clean a part with the linseed oil. Depending on the size of the glass pane, more linseed oil is required. Because of the oil's yield, you don't have to worry about having too little.

Step 3: Allow the linseed oil to take effect a little and then wipe it well with the soapy water. Detergent has fat-dissolving properties and completely removes the linseed oil from the pane together with the matt veil. The disk is then dried and polished as described above.

When cleaning with linseed oil, make sure that there is no more on the glass after cleaning. Residues can also cause stains and fog.

Instructions | vinegar

One of the classics in the household is vinegar essence. The popular home remedy works against a variety of stains that are on the glass pane. It increases the effect of the soapy water and is used together with it. If you recognize that the detergent alone will not be enough before you do the basic cleaning, you should use the vinegar essence . Vinegar for the preparation of dishes is not really suitable due to the low acidity.

If you want to use vinegar essence, proceed as follows:

  • add a few tablespoons of vinegar essence to the rinse water
  • stir well
  • Don't forget to put on your gloves
  • apply with a cloth
  • let absorb
  • wipe well and dry

Another advantage of the vinegar essence is the effect against insects . They don't like the smell and stay away from the surface for a while after cleaning. This can be pleasant, especially in summer.
