Tip: With adhesive dots or two-sided tape, you can also use your colorful felt butterflies to decorate Easter baskets or gifts.

Butterfly as a napkin ring

Also made of felt are the napkin rings in butterfly shape, which we want to tinker next. The finished elements represent a pretty, springlike table decoration.

You need this:

  • Bastelfilz in different colors (3 mm thick)
  • paper
  • cardboard
  • pencil
  • felt-tip pen
  • scissors
  • adhesive
  • our craft template

How to proceed:

Step 1: Print our craft template on paper and cut out the big butterfly.

Tip: It's the same pattern as the first one. However, you should use the smallest butterfly for the napkin rings.

Step 2: Transfer the butterfly to cardboard and cut it out.

Step 3: Cut out a cardboard strip measuring approx. 4 x 12 cm.

Step 4: Divide the butterfly in the middle and reconnect it with the cardboard strip just cut out.

Step 5: Place the finished template on the colored felt of your choice and surround it with a felt-tip pen.

Step 6: Cut out the whole thing.

Step 7: Now you have to make two incisions starting from the edge between butterfly and stripe - on one side from the top to the middle, on the other side from below to the middle.

Step 8: Insert the incisions into each other. Done is the butterfly napkin ring!

Tip: With the help of the template, you can of course make many more napkin rings in bright colors.

Step 2: Transfer the wing template twice (once normal, once mirrored) to a paper plate. It is best to use a conventional pencil. Cut out the wings now.

Step 3: Paint the edges, as well as the inner surfaces of the two wings with craft paint of your choice.

Step 4: Let the paint dry well.

Step 5: Transfer the body template to black cardboard with a pencil and then cut out the element.

Tip: Alternatively, you can also use an empty toilet paper roll, which you paint with black craft paint. After that you have to let the paint dry again.

Step 6: Cut off a long pipe from a black pipe cleaner, fold it in half and shape the ends into feelers.

Step 7: Then glue the feelers to the body from behind. Then attach the paper plates from the top of the body. Finished!

Tip: If you are using a black painted toilet paper roll for the body, stick the probes in it.

Step 8: Thread a long piece of string from behind through the slots.

Step 9: Use felt-tip pen to write the invitation text on a smaller colored photo card.

Step 10: Carefully roll the invitation together, place it vertically on the butterfly body and knot it with the drawstring at the front.

Tip: Of course you can also tie a bow.

Tinker Pearl Butterfly

With a pearl butterfly you create a real deco allrounder. It can be placed on the table or the window sill, hung on a wing part or used as a gift ornament.

You need this:

  • colorful pipe cleaner (bending plush)
  • colored beads
  • scissors

How to proceed:

Step 1: Pick up four colorful pipe cleaners and craft a star with eight beams from the bending plush wires.

Step 2: Fix this star in the middle with a small piece of pipe cleaner.

Tip: If you work with very small children, it is recommended to prepare the bending plush star for the offspring.

Step 3: Then put the colored beads on the rays.

Tip: Use lots of colors and mix them together to conjure up a dazzling butterfly. Or you arrange the same pearls on each of the upper and lower four rays - so the pattern becomes symmetrical.

Step 4: In order to create a butterfly out of the star, you now have to turn two rays into each other at the top. So make the wings of the animal.

5th step: Work in the middle, ie between the two pairs of wings, two more pipe cleaners. They yield the body and wings of the butterfly. First, turn the two bending plush wires together, but let them "run out" towards the top. Bend it slightly down at the top. Finished!

Tip: It looks especially great when many pearl butterflies decorate the window.

As you can see from our varied guides, there are countless ways to make decorative butterflies with children. In each variant, the time required as well as the degree of difficulty. In addition, all of our flying insects are made of low-cost materials.
