Material and preparation

Material for a crocheted bolero:

• 150-200 g of wool (160 m / 50 g)

We opted for a cuddly wool with alpaca . The wears pleasantly on the skin and warms despite Lochmuster very well. It is a very comfortable material to wear on the bare shoulder. At first it takes some getting used to crocheting the bolero with such a fluffy wool, but after a few laps it is no longer a problem.

Crochet Bolero

The inner circle

Start with a 4-mesh air chain . Join the chain with a warp stitch in the first stitch to a circle.

Make three air meshes. These replace the first chopsticks.

Crochet 15 whole sticks into the air mesh circle.

Close this round with a slit stitch in the third loop from the beginning.

Start the next round with three air meshes as well . Crochet a stick in the same place. Now make two sticks in each chopstick of the preliminary round. So you get a total of 32 sticks . Finish the round with a slit stitch in the third loop from the beginning.

Crochet three pieces of mesh and one stick in each of the following two stitches. In the next stitch make two chopsticks. It follows three times a stick per stitch. Crochet two pieces of air and skip a stitch of the preliminary round.

This is followed by three single sticks, two sticks in a loop, three single sticks, and two air stitches over a loop. Follow this scheme two more times. Finish the round with a slit stitch after the last two stitches.

The next round follows a very similar scheme. However, you will add two new sticks per district . A quarter thus consists of three single sticks (or three air stitches and a stick at the beginning of the round), two sticks in a stitch, three single sticks, two sticks in a stitch, two meshes. Finish the round with a chain stitch .

From the following round, the circle is divided into eighths . Repeat this eight times for the following scheme: three single sticks, two sticks in a stitch, two meshes. In four places, you make now two air mesh, where in the preliminary round were none. There you skip two stitches with the two meshes and continue the pattern in the third stitch. Finish the round with a chain stitch .

From now on the procedure is always the same. You start with three air stitches, crochet a chopsticks into each stitch and two chopsticks into the last stitch in front of the two stitches. Then come the two air meshes. Then it starts again from the beginning: crochet a stick per stitch and two sticks in the last stitch in front of the hole, followed by two air stitches.

Note: If the crochet piece crochet at the bolero at the edges, you must increase in a round eight stitches more. For example, double each of the last and the first chopsticks in each eighth.

Continue to crochet until one-eighth of the circle is made up of 20 sticks and two loops of air. Now the circle should be big enough to reach you loosely from shoulder to shoulder.

The arm openings

In the following round, the sleeves are incorporated. Start with two air meshes. Then crochet six half sticks . In the next stitch you work two half-sticks. Then another six half sticks follow. Now you have arrived at the place for the first armhole.

Make a chain with 24 air meshes . Leave 24 stitches and crochet on the 25th with half sticks. After a total of four half rods, the two air meshes come.

In the next two eighths, take half a stick in the middle. In the third eighth you only crochet a half stick in the first four stitches. This is followed by another chain of 24 stitches. Leave 24 stitches and crochet from the 25th with half sticks. In the sixth stitch you work two half sticks.

In the other two eighths take half a stick again in the middle.

Close the round with a chain stitch.

The outer rounds

In the next round always crochet three air stitches and a single loop alternately . This means that you start with three air meshes.

Make two stitches and crochet a tight stitch in the third. The scheme applies to the entire round.

Finish the round with a slit stitch in the first stitch.

Now crochet a single stitch into the first loop of air. Then half a stick, a whole stick and another half a stick in the second Luftmasche. It follows a tight loop in the third Luftmasche. Continue with a tight loop in the first air mesh of the next chain. Also this scheme will keep you the whole round.

At the beginning of the following round, work up to the whole stick with warp stitches. Make a chain with four air meshes. Fix the chain with a firm stitch in the whole stick of the next bow.

There are now four air stitches and a single loop in the next whole stick. Lastly, make a chain stitch in the first stitch of the round.

Now crochet a single crochet, half a stick, a whole stick, a double stick, a whole stick, half a stick, and another crochet. Go straight to the next chain of stitches and continue with a tight loop, half a stick, and so on.

At the beginning of the next round, work your way up to double sticks with chain stitches. Now repeat the last two rounds alternately: one round with four-square chains and one round with a bow of sturdy stitch, half-stick, chopsticks, double-stick, chopsticks, half-stick and tight stitch.

Tip: try the Bolero in between. Define the appropriate number of outer circles for yourself.

Collar and closure

We crocheted a total of three whole outer rounds . Then we switched to a three-quarter arc. This creates a nice wide collar, without the back is too long.

So we crocheted the chains only over six-eighths, then turned the work over and worked the bows as a back row. After two such double rows, the bolero is finally finished.

As a closure, crochet two long chainstitches. One end is knotted at the seventh bow of the collar. Start once from the left and once from the right to count the bows. The loose ends can tie a pretty bow .
