As with our other guides, the design possibilities of this apron are almost limitless. We will first show you a simple variant to recognize the basic principle. At the end of this manual, you will find some suggestions to make the apron a little more individual.

We wish you a lot of fun with our guide!

material

  • sewing machine
  • material
  • Schrägband
  • yarn
  • scissors
  • Paper and pen
  • pins
  • Tailor's chalk or water-soluble textile marker

sewing machine

As in most of our projects, only a simple machine is needed to work. This does not have to be special. A simple straight stitch is quite sufficient for this project.
We have used a Silvercrest that you can get for 99, - Euro on the Internet.

material

We used a patterned cotton fabric for the apron. Also, this project is especially a coated material, since it can be easily wiped off in case of contamination. But even a cotton apron can be easily cleaned in the washing machine.
A running meter of fabric you get for 5, - Euro.

Schrägband

This is needed to sew in the apron. The bias binding is available in all possible colors and is very flexible, which of course makes it easy to sew on the curves. If you do not want to use bias binding or do not have one, you can also use another wide textile strap. Make sure that the fabric is as flexible as possible. Bias tape gets you from about 2, - Euro.

Paper and pen

These things are needed for making the pattern. These items are sure to be yours already.

scissors

A good pair of scissors is essential for tailoring.
Please note: Use your scissors, especially if this is new, cut exclusively to the fabric. Otherwise, it can quickly become dull and unusable.

Something to note

Here you can either use traditional tailor's chalk or you can use a water-soluble textile pen.

The tailor's chalk is usually available in white, blue or gray and costs about 4, - Euro. The textile pen is like a felt-tip pen to handle, with the difference that you can remove it with a few drops of water again. Alternatively, you can simply wash the fabric and the strokes are gone. Such a pencil costs about 5, - Euro.

Get all the materials right and then you're ready to go.

Instructions - Sew apron

1. Make a pattern

Orient yourself to our picture. We made an apron for a toddler. First determine how long the apron should be inclusive Bib. After that, the width must be set.

ATTENTION: Measure only half of the cut pattern. Then complete the drawing by completing the measurements to a half apron shape. If you want a bag, create a drawing for it now. To create the bag at the same time, simply fold the paper and draw only half the bag and cut it over both layers. When you open the paper, you will get a symmetrical shape.

Note: The more accurate the pattern, the better the result.

2. Merging fabric

Now take your stuff and put it on the right side of the break.

"Right" always means the "nice" side for fabrics. "In break" means that you simply fold the fabric. In our picture you can easily see how you have to adjust the fabric.

3. Trace the pattern

Put the pattern on the fabric. For this purpose, the pattern is placed lengthwise to the break. To prevent slipping, you can also stick the pattern on the fabric. Draw the pattern afterwards. The pattern for the patch pocket is simply placed on the fabric and also marked.

4. Cut fabric

Now pin the two fabric layers for the main part of the apron, because the fabric can slip very quickly when cutting out. Then cut the fabric. Be as careful as possible and take your time. Now you have already prepared all the necessary cutting parts.

5. Attach bias binding

Cut the bias binding roughly for the top straight side.

The band may like to go over the edge, here will be cut later. Now hit the ribbon around the edge of the fabric. For that fold it lengthwise.

Experienced seamstresses and seamstresses can work this step without being stuck. Of course you can also fix the band with a needle.

Our tip: In this case, use paper clips as shown on our picture. So you do not sting through the layers and it does not slip anything.

Then sew the tape tight with a simple straight stitch.

Caution: Do not forget to "lock" your seams at the beginning and at the end. You start the seam and work some stitches forward. Then the back button on the front of your machine is pressed and 3 to 5 stitches stitched back. Then release the button and continue sewing as usual. Lock in the same way at the end. This prevents the seam from loosening again.

Cut off the excess tape. Then secure the bias binding around the fabric.

Start now at an outward corner. Grasp the fabric with the ribbon and end at the corners on the other side. For the time being, leave out the round part, which will later have the arms, on both sides for the time being.

Sew the tape tight and do not forget to lock it here too. Cut off the protruding band afterwards.

6. Sew the bag

Now take the bag. Stick the bias binding to the fabric all the way around. First, let go of the top straight edge. Then sew the tape to the fabric. The supernatant band cut off again. Now put a piece of tape on the still free edge and sew it tight. Shorten everything that survives.

Now measure about 40 cm from the bias binding and mark the spot. This will be one of the straps with which you can tie the apron together later.

Fold the bias binding and sew it up to this mark.

Attention: Do not lock and cut here!

Now lay the fabric with the side still open and then beat in the tape and sew it tight. Continue to sew about 40 cm and then cut off the ribbon. Repeat the last 4 steps on the other side.

Pin the bag to the apron and then sew it on.

Your apron is ready now.

This is also a nice gift idea for small bakers and cooks.
