If you want to knot bracelets and many other beautiful accessories from Paracord, you should first deal with the most important knotting techniques. These are presented in our detailed guide. Just read our instructions for all braiding knots!

Paracord is a lightweight nylon cord made up of a multi-stranded core and a braided sheath. The name is a composition of the two English words "parachute" (= parachute) and "cord" (= string). Originally paracord strings were used for parachute leashes. Meanwhile, these versatile fabric elements are also used in other areas - especially for crafting great arm jewelry pieces or even chic linen for dogs.

The following instructions will introduce you to the most common braiding knots and how to apply them in practice. This makes Paracord knots fun!

Knot paracord

A small tip in advance: Use the best for the Paracord knot types II and III.

Paracord type II

  • equals Paracord 450 (minimum train load is 450 American pounds (204 kilograms)
  • usually has a soul of four two-stranded strands

Paracord type III

  • equals Paracord 550 (minimum train load is 550 American Pound (249 kilograms)
  • usually has a soul of seven two-stranded strands

Now we want to introduce you to all braiding knots, which are used very often.

  • Herringbone node
  • snake knot
  • reef knot
  • flutter kick
  • Cyclone Wrap
  • helix node

Follow our illustrated step-by-step instructions to knot Paracord!

Easy braiding

For easy braiding, you 'll need two paracord cords that you treat as four strands when knotting. The two inner and the two outer strands are each from the same string.

Step 1: Place both cords in front of you so that you have a total of four strands (as described in the introduction).

Step 2: Start immediately with the right outer strand. Lead this past the middle strands to the left.

3rd step: Now grab the left outer strand and lead it behind the two middle strands to the right.

Tip: Step 3 works exactly the same as Step 2 - only from the opposite side. At first, the steps of our Paracord Knot tutorials may sound a bit complicated, but the pictures will help you to understand the descriptions and properly implement the respective braiding knots.

Step 4: Continue the pattern, alternately left and right - until your workpiece has reached the desired length.

Always braid in the change of colors.

At the end of the simple braiding you see this result in front of you.

Herringbone node

In order to achieve a herringbone pattern at the Paracord knot, you need six strands this time, that is, three strings. Fold the first string in the middle to create two parallel strands . These parallel strands (acting as guiding strands) place vertically in front of you (from top to bottom). Then place the other two cords horizontally under the vertical strands. Fold these horizontal cords down a bit on the outside. So you finally have six strands and can start with the actual knot.

Tip: Use two different colored cords for the horizontal strands to enhance the effect of the herringbone pattern. In order to make the manual more understandable, we will speak below of a red and a white cord (you can of course also choose other colors!).

Step 1: Grasp the right red strand and lead it over the right middle and then under the left middle strand to the left.

Step 2: Place the left red strand over the left middle strand and then pull it under the right middle strand to the right. Take the right white strand and lead it first over the right middle and then under the left central strand to the left.

Step 3: Pass the left white strand over the left middle strand and then pull it under the right middle strand to the right.

Step 4: Repeat steps 1 and 2.
Step 5: Repeat steps 3 and 4.
Step 6: Continue on this principle until nothing works or you have reached your goal.

snake knot

For the snake knot you need four strands, thus two paracord cords (the structure is the same as the simple plait knot with two strands of one string and two outer strands of the other string).

Step 1: Start with the left outer strand and lead it to the right behind the guide cords.

Step 2: Now take the left outer strand and lead it under the new, coming from the right strand to the right and thread it from top to bottom through the loop formed on the left.

Step 3: Tighten the strands - you're done with the first knot.

Step 4: Next, grab the strand you moved from left to right in step 1, which is currently on the left side. Guide this strand under the guide cords to the right.

Step 5: In the sequence, pull the left (originally right) strand under the left (originally right) strand and then over the two Leitschnüre to finally put it through the loop formed on the left.

Step 6: Tighten the strands again - now the second knot is under roof and compartment.
Step 7: Continue alternately until you reach your intended band length.

reef knot

To weave the weaver knot (often called a cross knot ) you need two strings for a total of four strands . Fix the two double-taken cords next to each other for easy knotting.

Step 1: Start with the right outer strand. Lead this under the two middle strands, but over the left outer strand to the left. This is already the first part of the desired node.

Step 2: For the second part of the weaver knot, first take the left outer strand and place it under the two inner strands. Then thread the strand through the loop of the right strand.

Step 3: Tighten both strand ends evenly. Now the first knot is finally finished.

4th step: To braid the second knot, start at the current left outer strand. Place it under both strands and then over the current right outer strand to the left.

5th step: Pass the right outer band over the guiding strands through the left side loop.

Step 6: Tighten the strand ends evenly. Already the second knot is completed.

Step 7: Knot alternately - up to the intended length.

Attention, with this braiding knot high attention is required: One outer strand is always routed via the guiding strands to the other side, while the other outer strand is always placed BEHIND the guiding strands.

flutter kick

For the change beat, it is necessary to prepare the same starting position as for the weaver or cross knot. So you need two strings for four strands .

Step 1: Start with the right outer strand. Place it over the middle strands and then bring it back to the right on the back of these strands.

Step 2: Now tighten the cords to complete the first knot.

Step 3: Then wind the left outer strand around the centerlines (first over this and then back to the left on the back) - same as with the outer right strand (see step 1).

Step 4: Tighten the cords again - and the second knot is done.
Step 5: Continue alternately - to the desired length.

Cyclone Wrap

To tie the Clyclone wraps you should ideally use two differently colored paracord cords . To conjure a particularly interesting band. First fix both cords in the middle and place them on your work surface. We explain the braiding knot using the colors purple and green. But you have the opportunity to create your own color creations.

Step 1: Start with the right outer strand. Lay it over the two inner strands to immediately guide him back to the right side behind them.

Step 2: Step 1 creates a loop on the left. However, unlike the change punch, it is not about pulling the end of the right strand through the large part of this loop, but from above through the smaller area between the two middle strands. Then put the strand back to the right. Our picture shows you how exactly this part is meant.

Step 3: Tighten the strands and push the knot up.

Tip: To ensure a uniform, tight pattern. So, perform this step with each new node.

4th step: Now grab the left outer strand to wind it once around the two middle strands (from top to bottom, just like at the beginning with the right outer strand). This creates a loop on the right side. Pass the outer strand from top to bottom through the two strands in the middle (analogous to step 2) and then lay it to the left.

Step 5: Tighten the strands. Do not forget to push the knot up again.

Step 6: Continue until your accessory is ready.

Note: The inner two conductive strands always stay in the middle. In our example, it's the green paracord strings. If you favor a two-tone pattern, give each of the two outer strings a different color.

helix node

The same starting position applies to the helix knot, so you need two strings for four strands . The special feature of this knot is that the two outer cords, in the course of the knot, begin to twist or twist around the two inner cords.

Step 1: Lie down the paracord cords as shown in the picture.

Step 2: First, take the outer right strand and guide it under the two central strands.

Step 3: Now take the left outer strand and guide it from top to bottom through the loop of the right strand or through its arc. Tighten the resulting node.

4th step: Now it goes on with the now rightmost outer strand, which is led back under the two central Leitsträngen. The step is similar to step 2, the strand now has only a different color. The next knot is ready. Tighten the strands and then push the knot slightly upwards.

Step 5: Continue in the following steps alternately until the desired length is reached.
