Create optical illusions and illusions yourself

Variant 1: Orange turns blue!

You need this:

  • A4 sheet in orange
  • white background

How to proceed:

Step 1: Take the orange A4 sheet and hold it against a white background.
Step 2: Focus on the sheet for at least 30 seconds.
Step 3: Take the sheet away and blink once.
Step 4: At the same spot on the white background that previously covered the sheet, you will see the color blue - the complementary color to orange.

Variant 2: The kiwi triangle

You need this:

  • kiwi
  • knife
  • cutting board
  • Plate

How to proceed:

Step 1: Cut three roughly equal slices of a kiwi. Do not use the edge pieces.
Step 2: From each of the three slices, work out a small "piece of cake" (triangle) at a 60-degree angle. You can already eat these bits, because you do not need them anymore.
Step 3: Place the sliced kiwi slices on a plate. Arrange them so that the openings point towards the center.
4th step: Correctly arranged, you will see a triangle in the middle of the sequence.

Variant 3: Looked too deep into the glass?

You need this:

  • white sheet of paper
  • Colored pencils in red and green
  • a glass of water

How to proceed:

Step 1: Pick up a piece of white paper and colored pencils in red and green.
Step 2: Write the words "WOW" (in red) and "OJE" (in green) on each other (each in capital letters).
Step 3: Put the paper on - if necessary, lean it against the wall or a stable object.
Step 4: Fill a glass with water.
Step 5: Slide the filled glass in front of the labeled paper.
Step 6: While you can read the word "WOW" normally, the word "OJE" is mirrored.

Variant 4: Mysterious turntable

  • sheet of paper
  • cardboard box
  • pencil
  • ruler
  • compasses
  • Glue
  • scissors
  • knitting needle

Step 2: Cut out the striped circle on top.

Step 3: Now it's time to turn the circle into a fast rotation. To do this, pierce a knitting needle through the center point, hold it to the point and hit the edge of the cardboard disc so that the latter turns quickly.

Tip: The knitting needle should not be too short.

4th step: Instead of the straight cross lines you see several concentric circles.

Note: Concentric means that something is symmetrically arranged around a common center. In our case, the perception pretends that the center of the disk is surrounded by symmetrically arranged circles.

Tip: If you also want to create peculiar color effects, you only need to color every second space, for example in red or green. Alternatively, it is also possible to cut narrow strips of color paper and to stick to the circle. Try it!

Variation 5: happy or sad face

You need this:

- Picture with a face on it

How to proceed:

Step 1: Fold the image in the middle of the nose of the depicted face and then open it again.

Step 2: Then fold the photo in the opposite direction. Make the first fold in the middle of one and the second fold in the middle of the other eye. After this step, the bill should look something like this:

Step 3: Now move the bill up and down. In one of the two positions, the face looks sad, in the other, happy. Find out for yourself which direction leads to which expression!

Variant 6: The trapped hand in the leaf

You need this:

  • drawing paper
  • pencil
  • Felt-tip pens in black and colored
  • eraser

How to proceed:

Step 1: Take a sheet of drawing paper and a pencil.

Step 2: Place your hand on the paper and frame it with the pencil. Work properly and do not press too hard.

3rd step: The hand outline is done ">

Tip: Imagine, your hand is really still on the sheet and you must inevitably be something "mountainous" to overcome with the pen.

As soon as the hand area is over, we continue with the straight lines. This is how it looks after a few laps:

Step 4: Continue with the procedure until you are a few inches above your fingertips.

Step 5: Reinforce every other line, making it thicker than the rest. As a utensil you continue to use the black felt pen.

Step 6: Insert many colored lines with colored felt pens between the black ones. As if you were laying countless threads in red, blue, green, etc. over your hand.

Step 7: Finally, you can erase the pencil lines from the beginning.

Important instructions:

  • The "hills" in the hand area serve to achieve the final 3D effect.
  • Be sure to paint the lines to the left and right of the hand as straight as possible. They should run smoothly to make the hand look real later.
  • Do not give up if it does not work as intended on the first try. Practice a little - soon it will work fine.
  • In the end, you have a wonderfully creative image with 3D effect and optical illusion.
