Prepare samples

Pimples can be placed anywhere in your crochet piece. So before you start crocheting, think about where and at which distance popcorn stitches should appear. For that you paint a crochet piece, like us.

We always crochet the pimples with a distance of 5 stitches. This number affects the base.

This means: 5 stitches, nubs, 5 stitches, nubs, etc. Since a nubble is crocheted into a stitch, in this case we need a chain of stitches that is divisible by 5 plus the number of nubs in a row.

In our example, this is 29 stitches (5 x 5 + 4 pimples) .

Tip: We recommend crocheting the knobs at a greater distance - this will make them look better. But it is also possible to leave only one stitch at a time between the individual popcorn meshes.

Crochet Pattern - Pimple Pattern

Base

Hit an air chain with the desired number of stitches. In our case, there are 29 air meshes. Then crochet a spiral airmesh and do the work. Then crochet a stitch in each stitch. The base now consists of 29 fixed stitches and is very stable.

1st row

Crochet an airlock and do the work.

Then decide whether you want to crochet the pattern only with fixed stitches or with chopsticks. We work the nub pattern with chopsticks.

For chopsticks, crochet two more meshes. For the fixed stitches a spiral air mesh is sufficient.

Then crochet four sticks.

Now comes the first popcorn stitch: * Crochet a chopsticks into the next stitch, but do not close them off, but crochet four more chopsticks into one and the same stitch. Only at the end, if you have 6 loops on the crochet hook, the sticks are mitigated together. The knob is now made up of 5 sticks.

Crochet an airlock and then 5 normal sticks. *

The pattern ** is now crocheted to the end of the row. They end the round with a chopstick.

2nd row

Now crochet a spiral air stitch and then a full set of 29 stitches. Make sure, however, that you do not crochet the mesh after every knot. If you did that, you would have 33 stitches in a row and the pattern would broaden. By means of the fixed stitches you will get back to the other side, to the side of the pattern start.

3rd row

Work three spiral air meshes and do the work.

Now you can decide if you want to make the nubbed pattern even or offset.

Evenly : crochet you described and start with 4 sticks. Then follow the first knob and the 5 sticks.

Spiked: Crochet a chopsticks. Subsequently, the popcorn mesh is already done. Crochet the pimple now and then 5 sticks. The row ends with two simple sticks.

Repeat pattern

Now rows 2 and 3 are always repeated.

Depending on your preference, whether you are crocheting or even crocheting, always orient yourself on the last row with popcorn stitches. The set of strong stitches must not be forgotten, so that the pimples are all later on one side.

Finally, finish the crochet with a series of tight stitches for a clean finish.

Caps, scarves or even jackets can be decorated with the popcorn pattern. Often the nub pattern is used for cuffs. As you can see, a creative design succeeds in just a few simple steps.
