Previous knowledge

To crochet Granny Squares, you need some basic crochet knowledge. But they are not that many. You should be familiar with these techniques in detail so that you can work with the following instructions:

  • thread ring
  • stitches
  • strong stitches
  • Chopsticks and half chopsticks
  • double rods
  • slip stitch

When crocheting in the square you have to keep paying attention to a few things. These include crocheting thread rings as a starting point, crocheting transitional meshes to replace chopsticks at the beginning of each new round, and a warp stitch at the end of each round. This explains the basic principle of Granny Squares - they crochet in turns, from the inside out. The individual instructions are always pointed out, so you can not go wrong.

1. Granny Squares pattern

1st round: Work 4 air meshes and connect them with a chain stitch to a ring.

2nd round: Work 3 air meshes (substitute swabs), 2 sticks and an air mesh in the ring. Then crochet 3 times: 3 sticks and 1 air mesh into the ring. The round is closed with a chain stitch.

3rd round: Begin this round in a pre-row airmesh arc (this can be a new color, but does not have to).

Crochet 3 pieces of air, 2 sticks and one air mesh in this bow, and again 3 sticks. Now skip the chopsticks of the previous row and work in each additional airmesh sheet: 3 sticks, 1 airlock and 3 sticks. It concludes with a chain stitch. The square is already recognizable as such.

4th Round: Now start in one of the side arcs. Now crochet 3 Air Meshes, 2 Chopsticks. You skip the chopsticks of the previous row and work 3 sticks, an air mesh and 3 sticks into the corner of the Granny Squares.

Always work the round in this way. Side crocheted in the arches 3 Luftmaschen. In the corners you work 3 sticks, an air mesh and again 3 sticks. The round is completed with a chain stitch. Now Granny Square is already finished - but you can make it as big as you want in this way. The technology always remains the same.

2. Granny Squares pattern

1st Round: Crochet a Magic Ring. In this work 2 air mesh and 7 sticks. The ring is closed with a chain stitch.

2nd round: Place the round in one of the stitches in the previous row. Crochet two pieces of air and a stick into this stitch. In each stitch of the previous row, 2 sticks are crocheted (= 16 stitches). Crochet the chain stitch.

3rd round: Crochet chopsticks bundles. Start again in one of the stitches of the previous series. Crochet two pieces of air and a chopstick. Then crochet two chopsticks into the next stitch, but these are then mopped off together. This is followed by an air mesh. Crochet these bundles of two chopped sticks together and one air mesh into each of the other stitches of the previous row (= 16 tufts). Finish the round with a chain stitch.

4th round: Now crochet into the spaces of the previous row. Start with 2 air stitches in the first, then crochet 2 sticks together to form a tuft.

Work 2 air meshes.

Then crochet 3 sticks into each space, which are then brushed together to form a tuft. In between, always 2 air meshes are worked. The round is closed with a chain stitch.

Round 5: This round is worked like Round 4, except that the bundles consist of 4 bundled together bundles. You start with 2 air meshes and 3 sticks in the bundle. Between the 4-tufts 3 air-stitches are crocheted. Kettmasche to the conclusion.

6th round: You start with 2 air meshes and three chopsticks in the first space. Then crochet four single sticks into each space of the previous row, no tufts. * After three crocheted interspaces with four individual sticks, the first corner comes: in the next sheet, crochet 3 double sticks, 4 air stitches and again 3 double sticks. *

The order ** repeat now until the end of the round. The conclusion is again a chain stitch.
