Space-consuming lunch box was yesterday. They are looking for something robust, which is still flexible ">

This project is not particularly difficult. Practiced seamstresses and seamstresses need about 30 minutes for this.

Important: First of all read our instructions completely. Thus, any questions may be clarified in advance.

  • velcro fastener
  • Tailor's chalk or fabric marker
  • Paper clips or pins

The sewing machine

For this project you do not need a special machine with elaborate stitch types or other. Here a simple machine with the standard stitches is enough. Our machine is from the company Silvercrest and costs about 99, - Euro.

The fabric

For this lunchbag optimal oilcloth is used. This may well be a plain wax tablecloth for the garden. This can be processed wonderfully, because the needle of the sewing machine slides smoothly through the fabric. Alternatively, of course, any other coated fabric can be used. Thus, the lunch bag is wipeable and can be used for food. You get fabric for 5, - Euro per meter. Wax tablecloths are also found in many deco shops from 3, - Euro.

The Velcro closure

In order to close the bread bag, we have used a Velcro. Our velcro is strongly self-adhesive. Of course, any other velcro can be chosen. Then the closures have to be sewn on. Alternatively, pushbuttons can also be used.

Something to note

For marking different utensils can be used. We prefer to use a fabric marker. This can be removed with only a few drops of water and costs about 5, - Euro. Alternatively, tailor's chalk can be used, which is not as precise as a fabric marker. Tailor's chalk costs about 3 to 4 euros. If you have nothing of the kind, you can also use a soft pencil.

Something to fix

Of course, normal pins can be used for pinning. Coated fabrics are needed in this project, so most would leave the holes of the needles. Therefore, we recommend paper clips. These keep the fabrics together without leaving any traces.

Now we start with the actual work. Get all the materials you need and start. We wish you a lot of fun.

Sewing lunchbag - the manual

1. Create a pattern. Orient yourself to our picture.

Important: Allow yourself plenty of time for the pattern. The more exact the pattern, the nicer the result at the end.

2. Draw the pattern. You will need 2 cut parts for inside and 2 cut parts for outside.

3. Cut the 4 cut pieces.

4. Place the two parts for the inside right to the right, ie the two "beautiful" sides.

5. Fix the two pieces of fabric, as this fabric can easily slip.

6. Sew together the two long sides and the lower short straight.

Important: Do not forget to "lock" your seams at the beginning and end. This means that you first sew a few stitches forward, then press the back button on the front of your sewing machine, sew back a few stitches, and then continue the seam as usual. The same thing is done at the end of the seam. This prevents the seam from coming off.

7. Pull one of the open-bottom corners sideways so that the opening closes.

8. Sew along this edge.

9. Do the same on the other side as well.

10. Apply the whole thing and work out the corners carefully.

11. Now we want to attach the Velcro fastener. To do this, the center, ie 12.5 cm, must be measured and marked on both parts for the outside.

12. Measure 10 cm of both Velcro fasteners and cut them.

13. Attach the Velcro approximately 2.5 cm from the edge. Our velcro is self-adhesive and holds well even without seam. Of course you can also secure it with a seam around it.

14. Put the two pieces of fabric together, Velcro on Velcro. If the Velcro fastener is not sufficient as a fixation, it can still be helped with pins or paper clips.

15. Sew together the two long sides and the bottom short straight as in step 6.

16. Close the lower corners here as well.

17. DO NOT use the outer part! Now insert the inner part into the outer part. Then work the corners out.

18. Attach both parts to the top opening. Make sure that the fabrics are well aligned.

TIP: If possible, remove the cover on your sewing machine. This greatly facilitates the next step.

19. Now sew the two parts together. Do not forget to leave space for the turnaround!

20. Now carefully apply the whole thing through the turning opening.

21. Insert the inner part into the outer part. Carefully work out the corners.

22. Now the turning opening has to be closed.

23. Then fold in the edges of the turning opening and then sew along the edges with a short edge.

24. Now cut off the superfluous threads.

Your lunchbag is ready. You can now use it. Just put in banana, candy bars and Co. and screw in top. Closes then with the Velcro.
