Lamps are a great way to give your home a special flair. Unfortunately, the products in furniture stores are often not your own taste and nothing special. In addition, the lampshade often loses its shape and color over time and is then no longer attractive. With a little creative skill, however, can be easily remedied here.

Make great lampshades yourself

If you decide to make a shade for your lamp in your own decor, you do not need much material for it. An old plastic wastepaper basket is already the basis for your new lamp. We spent only 4 € for fabric and bucket, therefore, this decorative DIY idea is still a bargain at the same time.

Before you start, you should prepare your workplace carefully. Provide the necessary utensils and, unless it is a workbench, carefully cover the work surface with old newspapers or foil. The use of the adhesive can otherwise lead to unsightly stains that are difficult to remove.

First take the bucket and place it with the opening down on the protective foil. Then choose the required fabrics and tear or cut into oblong stripes (about two centimeters wide per strip, length varies depending on bucket height). Make sure that you always choose the strips of cloth so that you can hang them loosely over the bucket and the entire bucket is covered. Lay all the fabric strips over the bucket in this way and then coat the fabric thoroughly with textile reinforcement or paste. For this you best use a natural hair brush. Work with this carefully, so that all fabric parts are covered by the amplifier and soak.

After applying the product, you must have a drying time of at least two hours. During this time it is advisable to blow with the hair dryer occasionally for five minutes in order to speed up the drying process. If the textile amplifier has dried, apply another layer. Depending on the bucket size, you have to repeat the process up to three times. Thoroughly dry the last coat of textile enhancer and afterwards help with the hair dryer.

Tip: A fan can also help with the drying process; you can just let it run.

When the textile amplifier is completely dry, the last steps are on it and your own lampshade is ready. Bypass the outlines of the lampholder on the bottom of the bucket with a pin. Then carefully cut out the circle with the craft knife - depending on the nature of the plastic, this can be easier or more difficult.

Then screw the socket together so that the shield is screwed in place. Now you only need to bring the copy to the ceiling and your very own lampshade will shine anew every day.

Step 1: At the beginning blow the balloon to the desired shade size. Then knot the opening of the balloon.

Step 2: Now the wallpaper paste is touched. Mix the paste with the appropriate amount of water as indicated on the package.

Step 3: Then distribute enough newspaper on the work surface.

Step 4: Now, as you like, wrap the natural fiber ribbon chaotically around the balloon. Always keep the construct under tension to keep the band in place. Wrap the ribbon so that there is a smaller hole than the diameter of the bulb holder.

Step 5: Now that the lampshade has the look you want, cut the tape off and hide it under the other ribbons. Now it will be interesting: after that, once you paste the entire balloon along with tape. The Einkleistern you can already make while wrapping - so to speak, always einkleistern a piece of tape and then wrap this around the balloon.

Step 6: Let the lampshade dry well - 1 day should be enough. To keep the balloon in the meantime, you can hang it by a thread.

Step 7: Now the balloon is punctured. The air can escape and leaves a "knitted" ball, which is now almost the finished lampshade. The ball has shrunk by the jerky escape of the air and then does not look really nice. To make it a round lampshade, gently open the net with your fingers. Be very careful that the net does not break.

Step 8: If you are not satisfied with the color of your lampshade yet, you can adjust it to your color. If you like it a little more noble, you can give the lampshade with spray paint and spray paint even more individual.

Step 9: To place the bulb in the center of the lampshade, you need a hole in the shield and a support that attaches to the cable. Cut the hole in the lampshade where the frame should go. For the holder, however, use a pencil to circumvent the outline of the lamp holder on the piece of cardboard. Then use the compass to draw a circle about 3 - 4 cm larger around this outline.

Step 10: Cut out this cardboard ring with scissors. The ring should ideally be stuck on the lamp holder and not slip.

Step 11: Now you have two options: either you simply push the socket with pear through the opening in the screen and the light paper is held on it by itself or you attach everything with hot glue on the paper. This will make it a little harder to change the bulb later, because you will not be able to loosen the socket easily without damaging the shield. But it is still a very stable variant.

Done is the specially created lamp ball!
