Knitting heart pattern

The sweet heart pattern goes well with children's clothing. Suggest a mesh number divisible by twelve.

Tip: You can adjust the pattern to match the mesh size of your project by going to the beginning of the pattern row in odd rows at the beginning. For example, if you have four stitches too few, start with the fifth of the description. In even rows, shorten the last repetition at the end of the row accordingly.

Knit heart

A small heart is quickly knitted and versatile. Take it as a key ring or decorate a gift for a loved one with it. Even self-made or bought bags, pullovers and Co. get a new face with sewn-on hearts. Surely you have many more options. It's best to knit several hearts from your wool rests.

For a heart, you need exactly three stitches at the beginning. They knit tightly on the right, that means all stitches on the right. In the following, we will explain what simple techniques you need as well.

Double stitches

Work the stitch as usual, but do not drop it off the left needle. Instead, pick again and knit the stitch a second time, this time right-crossed. To do this, take up the back part of the stitch instead of the front one.

Knit two stitches together

With this technique you reduce the mesh count by one. Take two stitches at once and knit them like a loop.

How to knit the heart:

1st + 2nd row: knit without changes or decreases

3rd - 5th row: double the first stitch (= 6 stitches after row 5)

Let rest the previously knitted part. Make another 3 stitches on the same needle with a new thread. Repeat with the first five rows as described. You now have two separate heartbows. Place both parts on a needle so that one of the drooping threads is at the tip. In all the following rows knit across the entire width (= 12 stitches) so that the two halves join together.

Tip: For the second stitch stop, use the end of the thread from inside the ball.

6th - 8th row: knit without changes or decreases

9th - 19th row: knit the first two stitches together (= 1 stitch after row 19)

Pull the thread through the remaining loop and sew all hanging pieces of thread. Make the bows beautifully round. Done is the heart!

Possible variations

1. Change the size or position of your hearts arbitrarily. Draw your pattern on checkered paper. Mark a left-hand stitch with a cross and leave the box empty for a right-hand stitch. In rows with odd numbers, read the scheme from right to left and work according to the drawing. In straight rows knit in the other direction and swap the stitches, that is, you knit left stitches on the right and vice versa.

2. Knitt the heart smoothly right instead of frizzy. To do this work in all rows with even numbers left stitches. Note that the fabric can curl up. Therefore, this variant is especially suitable for hearts that are to be sewn.
