If the temperature values ​​are set too high, the water in the supply line will always be heated to a great extent, which consumes a great deal of energy. Both variants gnaw on the purse and either you are permanently too warm or too cold.

Excessively high temperatures over a long period of time may cause the pipes or radiators to be damaged . The higher the level is set, the faster it gets warm, and the heater will appear warmer in intensity. If you wildly move the thermostat on a wrongly adjusted heater, the worse the above mentioned disadvantages become.

Tip: Setting the correct temperature of the hot water is even more important if your pipes for the heating and the water of your shower and taps converge in the living areas. Without the right temperature, dangerous germs and bacteria like Legionella can settle in the water and lead to a disease.

Now your heater is vented. Venting before adjusting the temperature is important so that the heater can run completely without negative side effects, which in turn saves energy. Air in the heater must also be heated and ensures that the water is displaced. Thus, this sometimes does not reach all places in the radiator. The venting of a floor heating, in contrast, happens at the heating system and is much harder to implement. Here you should rely on the expertise of an installer.

Tip: Dumping the air, especially for older radiators, can provide significantly better heat output without wasting energy.

If you want to set the right flow temperature, you first need access to the heating system in the house. If you are the owner of the house, this is no problem at all. If you live in a rented apartment, this task will be taken over by the landlord or the company renting the apartments.

In rental houses, access to the heating system can sometimes be closed off. If so, you need to contact your landlord to initiate further action. Adjusting the heating is very easy and happens directly at the heating system . If available, use the operating instructions for the system. Now it is up to the setting of the hot water temperature, for which the following values ​​are necessary.

  • Transport heat losses
  • Insulating properties of the premises
  • Surfaces of the heaters

All these values ​​will be considered by a heating installer in order to set the exact flow temperature. Of course, as a normal consumer this is not really possible because you are missing the measuring devices. For this reason, the classic defaults that have been established over the years, if you yourself have no knowledge in this area, or if the installation by an installer is out of the question for you at the moment, remain with you.   • Radiator: 60 ° C - 65 ° C
  • Underfloor heating: 55 ° C

Underfloor heating uses a different type of heat distribution and often occupy a much larger area than radiators, which explains the lower temperature. The biggest problem with these values ​​is the fact that external factors are not taken into account. Location, nature of the house and the prevailing weather conditions can ensure that higher temperatures must be set. This is not noticed by the normal consumer in most cases. These values ​​will work more effectively if you also set the return temperature to the default values.

  • Radiator: 40 ° C
  • Underfloor heating: 45 ° C

The right return temperature ensures significantly better energy efficiency. There is a problem with this variant. Since neither the rooms nor the location of the house itself is included in the determination of the ideal flow temperature when using the standard values, the heating can still use too much energy.
