Creative toy promotes the coordination ability of young and old. Juggling balls are among the classics here. With only one to three simple balls you can spend hours and days. Maybe you always wanted to learn how to throw a ball up like a clown. "> Juggling balls are ideal for this: To crochet a Hacky Sack, all you need is a little cotton yarn and a matching crochet hook. The simplest monochrome models are ready in no time. Depending on the stuffing, you'll get classic juggling balls or the well-known footbag that is juggled with your foot. You'll see: Crocheting a Hacky Sack can be very fast, but it can be used for weeks and months as a fun and daily challenge.

In juggling balls, in addition to the shell, a suitable filling is crucial. As a material here are, for example, rice grains, sand, corn, dried beans, chickpeas or plastic granules. For juggling balls for the hands, rice has proven to be the best. It is important here to crochet the appropriate size for the hands of the juggler and then fill the ball bulging. When Hacky Sack crochet for the feet, the size is not so central. The filling should, however, be a little looser, so that the ball can easily deform. Therefore, sand or corn are also very popular fillings here.

Tip: Roll out of paper a small funnel. This makes it much easier to fill the juggling balls.

Here we present a basic instruction for the Hacky Sack crochet with two different strong cotton yarns. In the second part there are two color variants to learn based on the basic instructions.

Crochet Hacky Sack

Monochrome Hacky Sacks

Prior knowledge:

  • thread ring
  • Increase mesh
  • Remove stitches

Material:

  • Cotton yarn (50 g / 85 or 50 g / 125 m)
  • Crochet hook size 4 or 3.5
  • Filling of your choice
  • wool needle

Monochrome juggling balls with a diameter of approx. 6 cm

Start with a thread ring with 6 fixed stitches. Crochet now continuously in spiral rounds. In the following rounds, take 6 stitches evenly distributed throughout the round. This means to double every stitch in the second round, every 2nd and so on in the 3rd round. For juggling balls of 6 cm diameter, your largest round should consist of 36 stitches on the thicker cotton yarn (50 g / 85 m) and 42 stitches on the thinner cotton yarn (50 g / 125 m).

Once you have reached the appropriate number of stitches, crochet the thicker yarn or 8 turns the thinner yarn for a total of 6 turns. Then follow the decreases. Crochet 2 stitches at 6 points in each round with equal spacing. That means at 42 stitches that first every 6th and 7th stitch are summarized. For 36 stitches, crochet every 5th and 6th stitch together in the first round, then every 4th and 5th, etc.

If you only have 12 stitches left, it's time to fill. Rice, corn, beans and plastic granules can be filled directly into the juggling balls. For the sand you should place a thin bag in the ball. There you fill in the sand. Seal the bag with a rubber band.

Crochet the last round after filling. Cut the thread and pull it with a wool needle round by all 6 remaining stitches. Tighten, sew and knot the thread.

Note: To crochet a simple, colorful Hacky Sack, change the color regularly, for example at the end of each round.

Model stripes with star

Material:

  • Cotton yarn (50 g / 85 m) in 4 different colors (green, white, gray, yellow)
  • Crochet hook size 4
  • Filling of your choice
  • wool needle

Start with green and follow the basic instructions. The only difference is that you do not crochet in spiral rounds, but close each round with a slit stitch and start the new round with an airlock.

Note: If you change color, you will already accept the new color to finish the previous stitch. You pull the thread of the new color through the 2 loops of the previous color.

In the 3rd round crochet the single stitch after doubling in white. [9] From now on, always take the white stitches. So in the following rounds you will only ever have 6 x 2 stitches in green, while the white stitches will be more. Continue until you have 36 stitches in a round. This means that 2 green stitches each alternate with 4 white stitches.

Crochet a round of 36 stitches in white, gray and yellow. That's half the juggling ball done. It follows a whole round in yellow, gray and green.

In the next round you change constantly between 4 green and 2 white stitches.

Then crochet 6 times 2 green stitches together for the declines over 3 rounds. The white stitches continue. Fill the ball with your filling material. Crochet the last two rounds in white. Close the juggling ball as described in the basic instructions.

Colorful zigzag

Material:

  • Cotton yarn (50 g / 125 m) in 4 different colors (dark blue, light blue, orange, yellow)
  • Crochet hook size 3, 5
  • Filling of your choice
  • wool needle

This model can be crocheted in spiral rounds.

Round 1 - 4: Start with a dark blue string. Follow the basic instructions until you have 24 stitches in a round.

Round 5: Crochet the stitch each in light blue before doubling. So there are always 4 dark blue and one light blue stitch.

Round 6: Double the light blue stitch and crochet one more crochet in light blue. This is followed by 3 light blue to 3 dark blue stitches.

Round 7: Now crochet only the middle of the dark blue stitching in dark blue. All others crochet light blue. Always double in the middle of the light blue stitches.

Round 8: Take 6 stitches evenly over the round for the last time. Work every 8th stitch in orange. Orange should be midway between the dark blue tips.

Round 9: Switch between 5 light blue and 3 orange stitches. Crochet a stitch for each and a stitch after the orange stitch in orange as well.

Round 10: Always crochet 3 light blue and 5 orange stitches.

Round 11: This round follows the scheme: 1 light blue, 3 orange, 1 yellow, 3 orange

Round 12: Light blue is now completely eliminated. There are now 5 orange and 3 yellow stitches.

Round 13: Switch between 3 orange and 5 yellow stitches.

Round 14: Now dark blue comes into play: 1 orange, 3 yellow, 1 dark blue, 3 yellow

Round 15: Crochet alternating 4 yellow and 3 dark blue stitches. For that you put 2 yellow stitches together.

Round 16: Proceed as in round 15. Now follow 5 dark blue on a yellow stitch.

Round 17: Crochet a scarf in light blue in the middle between the yellow tips. Always put 2 dark blue stitches together.

Round 18: Expand the number of light blue stitches. 3. Combine the remaining dark blue stitches into one stitch at a time.

Round 19 - 21: There will only be dropping rounds in light blue. Fill your juggling balls in time before the opening becomes too small!

Cut the thread at the end and close the hole as explained in the basic instructions.
