As a real croissant you should know the Granny Square in any case and dominate. The finished crochet work consists of several small crocheted squares, which are individually crocheted and then joined together. With this technique, many colorful crochet pieces can be made, such as patchwork blankets, pillowcases, potholders or bracelets. We will show you how to do it in this basic tutorial. This granny square pattern is characterized by the fact that there are no air meshes between the individual rods. This makes the crochet piece firm and stable.

Crochet 4 meshes and tie them with a slit stitch through the first mesh to form a ring.

1st Round: Crochet 3 Air Stitches (these are the first chopsticks). Then crochet 2 sticks into the ring. This is followed by an air mesh. Now crochet 3 more stick groups, each consisting of 3 sticks. Between each group crochet an air mesh. You come to the end of the round with an air mesh, then you close the round with a chain stitch through the third Anfangsluftmasche. Cut off the thread.

2nd round: Change the color. Start with a chain stitch through the first loop of air mesh. To do this, pierce them, fetch the thread and pull it through the loop on the needle.

Now follow 3 Air Meshes, 2 Chopsticks, 1 Air Mesh and again 3 Chopsticks in the first Air Mesh Arc of the previous row. * Now skip 3 sticks of the previous row and crochet 3 sticks, 1 air stitch and again 3 sticks into the next loop of the air mesh. * Repeat this order ** until you end the round with 3 sticks and a subsequent warp stitch. Cut the thread if you want to change the color again.

3rd round: Start now with another color. Crochet a warp stitch into a side bow. * Then work 3 air stitches and 2 sticks in exactly this arc. Then skip 3 sticks from the previous row. Now crochet in the corner arc 3 sticks, 1 airlock and again 3 sticks. * Now skip 3 sticks of the previous row and crochet in this way ** until the end of the round and close everything with a chain stitch.

All the following rounds: Crochet round by round, round by round, as usual. 3 sticks are crocheted in each side bow, 3 sticks, 1 air stitch and 3 sticks are crocheted into each corner bow.

When the square reaches the desired size, cut the thread and sew all the thread ends on the back.

Join Granny Squares

Crochet a Granny Square ready. The second crochet the same way, but only up to a certain point. At this point, the two Granny Squares are connected. Place the two squares next to each other as they will be connected later. Crochet the second square to this point where the crochet starts.

1st step: Now 3 sticks, 1 air mesh and again 3 sticks in the corner would follow. Crochet the 3 sticks in the corner, but instead of 1 air mesh, insert into the corner of the finished square, get the thread and crochet a tight stitch. Then crochet the other 3 sticks in the same bow.

Step 2: Now with the crochet hook in the next arch to the left and crochet a crochet stitch. Then crochet 3 sticks in the arc of the unfinished square.

Step 3: Repeat this process until the two squares are crocheted together. The second square will then be terminated easily according to the instructions above.

Corner with four squares

If you want to connect four squares to one Ecker, proceed as follows:

Insert the crochet hook into all three corner bows and crochet a tight stitch. There are then four loops on the needle. Get the thread and pull it through all four loops.
Crochet the Granny Squares together as described above.
