For many Amigurumi fans animals like our crochet giraffe are part of the basic equipment of their imaginative works. Whether cuddly animals, key and bag tags, as a gift for the girlfriend or as a decoration in a separate Amigurumi animal collection, the possible uses of these lovingly crocheted animals are varied. The joy and love flowing into the work while crocheting are perpetuated in every crochet work.

Crochet giraffe

With crochet hook and yarn step by step to the finish

Crocheting a giraffe is more likely to be a simple crochet work. We have written the instructions so that even crochet beginners and less experienced this Amigurumi can easily rework. Step by step we show how each part is worked.

Great knowledge of stitching does not have to be brought either. You should only dominate fixed mesh, only the ears are still needed rod knowledge. If you are still a little unsure about these stitches, then just have a look into our corner Crocheting. There you can also repeat step by step all the stitches again. This also applies to the thread ring, the beginning of every single particle of the little giraffe.

Our crochet giraffe consists of many individual particles, which are all sewn together at the end. The principle is almost always the same. It is a small hollow body crocheted, which is stuffed and sewn on the large body of the giraffe.

The size of your Amigurumis you can even specify the crochet giraffe yourself. Our model measures approx. 35 centimeters with outstretched legs and the horns. If you would rather have a smaller size, but still want to crochet exactly according to our instructions, then just use a thinner yarn and a matching crochet hook. For a larger cuddly toy, use a thicker yarn and a thicker crochet hook.

The character of your giraffe you decide on your own. We have based our colors a little on the original. But that does not have to be with Amigurumi. It says here what pleases - is allowed. So a colorful giraffe, maybe even with striped limbs, can look just as original and lovely.

Material and preparation

Which yarn to process ">

We decided on a cotton yarn from trendgarne.de, the LINE 345 Cotton Baby. On the one hand the bright colors inspired us, on the other hand because of the certification by Oeko Tex Standard. This means that if a child plays with the crocheted giraffe, this certificate guarantees that the product is free from harmful substances.

The crochet hook

This manual has been worked with a 2.5 mm crochet hook. With this type of crochet the work may be a bit taut. If you use a larger needle with the same amount of wool, the work will be a little bit misshapen. But if that's what you want, that's possible too. For the horns and the brown body patches, we crocheted with a needle size of 2.0 mm.

The filling material

The filling gives the Amigurumi figure its individual shape and also gives it the special character. When choosing the material, you can be flexible. You can choose between a cotton-like synthetic fiber or a natural fiber.

We crocheted a synthetic cotton wool in the giraffe, because this stuffs well, gives the shape a perfect figure and does not start to lump over time. You can also wash a figure filled with synthetic cotton more easily, which is especially important with cuddly toys.

According to our instructions you need:

  • 50 grams of cotton yarn / 180 meters
  • Crochet hook of thickness 2.5 and 2.0 mm
  • Filling cotton for stuffing
  • 2 button eyes
  • 1 darning needle
  • scissors

Crochet basic pattern for giraffe

The giraffe is crocheted only with fixed stitches except for the ears.

By the way: You can learn all the stitches in our corner "Learn Crochet" or bring them back to your memory.

This also applies to the thread ring. The thread ring is used in all crochet work, which is crocheted around.

It is often called a magic ring or magic ring. You will also find this tutorial in full under Crochet Learning.

Remove stitches

For slimming when crocheting there are different versions. We chose the giraffe crochet for a very simple option. Crochet tight stitches to the collection point. Now continue, pierce the next stitch, pull a thread. There are now two loops on the needle.

Repeat in the following stitch, get a thread and pull through. There are now 3 loops on the needle.

Pull the first no-suture loop through the needle. Now there are only 2 loops on the crochet hook.

Get a thread again and pull through all two loops. Done is the decrease of a mesh.

The brown spots on the body

We crocheted these spots in different sizes. You can set these yourself. Each stain begins with a thread ring . Then the stitches double in the sequence, as you have crocheted on each piece all the time. That means you crochet a lot of little circles. You can always set the size yourself.

Crochet the giraffe - Finish

When you've finished crocheting all the pieces, the most beautiful work comes: give the giraffe its character. Stitch the limbs to the body, then the head.

Tip: If you want a tight neck, connect the neck and head with a flower wire, which you can insert in the middle of both parts.

Sew on the horns and ears on the head. Now only the tail and the small spots on the body are missing. At the end you design the face of the giraffe. We sewed on two button eyes . You can also crochet and sew these eyes as a circle. Simply embroider the nostrils and mouth.

Done is a small Amigurumi giraffe .
