Of course, the nicest thing in the Christmas season is gifts! And gifts are as pretty as possible packaging - preferably homemade. Here you will find three different ways to make great DIY gift boxes: from the practical folding box to an imaginatively designed effect box to a fast gift bag!

Make gift packaging yourself

Of course, even a lovingly wrapped gift wrapping looks wonderfully Christmas. However, a box handmade by the donor rounds off the gift in a particularly individual way - and, depending on the model, can still be used after the festive days. As a storage box for photos, jewelry or other trifles, the chic boxes are an additional little gift that can be used anywhere decorative. Best of all: All the DIY Christmas boxes presented here are to be created in no time and with a material cost of well under 5 euros - provided you already have a basic crafting equipment consisting of scissors, glue, etc.

Practical folding box in glitter look

From a single sheet of glitter paper and a little patience can create a practical gift box with a fixed hinged lid. This is particularly suitable for larger gifts or as a trendy box that includes many small gifts. The best: The size is variable. Take bows in A3 or an even luscious format to make a correspondingly voluminous box. The larger your paper, double, multiply, multiply or simply multiply our dimensions given here, which refer to A4.

Difficulty: easy
Time required: about 30 minutes - with a little practice much less
Material costs: under 5 euros

material

  • 1 sheet glitter box in A4 format - color of your choice (alternatively: metallic or velvet sheets - just in the craft supplies or online check!)
  • ruler
  • pencil
  • scissors
  • Adhesive or double-sided tape
  • Clips, clothespins or similar

manual

Step 1: Place your paper in portrait format with the motif side (ie the glittering area) facing the tabletop in front of you.

Step 2: First, determine the desired height of your box. You have a relatively free hand. Judge by the dimensions of the gift you want to pack in the box later.

Step 3: To set the height, measure the corresponding area from the bottom edge. For example, if the box is to be 4 cm high, place your ruler at 0 at the bottom left corner and mark the point that reads 4 cm. At the right corner place another such point at 4 cm.

Tip: Instead of using a pencil, you can also simply score your marking lines with a second ruler or a blunt knife. To avoid unsightly pencil traces in the finished box. Absolute beginners, however, better choose the compromise of later reaching for the eraser or painting over the lines.

Step 4: Now connect the points by drawing a bridge between the two points using a ruler and a pencil. In this way, the entire box is created step by step!

Step 5: Now turn the other short side of the paper towards you (it is now upside down and your first marker is on top) and repeat steps 3 and 4 to get a second pencil line.

Step 6: Then fold the paper upwards - one at a time along the lines just drawn.

Step 7: Now fold one of the folded edges to the opposite, but only up to the open edges, not to the fold. Pull the kink well!

Step 8: Now unfold the convolution you made in step 7 (the convolutions from the earlier steps still remain in place!) And repeat step 7 reversed. That is, the other closed folding edge now moves to the parallel opposite open side of the folded along the pencil line edge.

9th step: You also unfold this fold again. This resulted in two highly visible fold lines in the middle of your paper.

Step 10: Now also fold the outer edges again. With ruler and pencil mark the height now also on the long sides - just like in the 4-centimeter example!

Tip: To make the folded centerlines even more visible, you can also draw them in pencil!

Step 11: Now it's time to be attentive! Lay the paper in landscape orientation in front of you. Orient yourself by the two long horizontal cross lines. Then use the pair of scissors to cut any short lines that run from a long edge to its next cross line. This means you make a total of 8 short cuts - 4 times on each long side and only up to the next cross line.

Tip: Difficult ">

Step 13: Now you can glue the box together by always attaching a longer outer piece to a neighboring adhesive square and pressing firmly. The part with no adhesive square in the middle becomes the lid.

Tip: With clips, clothes pegs or the like, you can fix the splices and thus provide more stability.

14th step: At will, it is now possible to color the box from the inside. Otherwise you are already finished!

Effect box made of single cardboard

This box offers countless design options: from noble and subtle to magical colorful. The trick is that the walls of the box unfold solemnly when unpacking, a little like a flower. Therefore, the decoration of the interior is almost more important than the external impression. Following the basic instructions, we'll give you some great inspirations for a Christmas painting inside your effects box!

Difficulty: easy
Time required: depending on the extent of the decoration wishes - about one hour
Material costs : less than 5 euros - because mainly pap prote are processed!

material

  • Christmas pattern paper (everything from wrapping paper to origami paper works)
  • Cardboard pieces (made of empty cornflakes cardboard or similar)
  • pencil
  • scissors
  • Glue
  • Masking tape (is more flexible than ordinary tape and therefore preferable)

manual

Step 1: To begin, cut your cardboard into the required shape, namely:

  • 1 piece of 10 x 10 cm
  • 5 pieces of 9 x 9 cm
  • 4 strips of 10 x 2 cm

Step 2: Now you want to decorate the cardboard pieces with the sample paper. Stick the uglier side of your cardboard box to the back of the patterned paper.

Tip: Place the pieces of cardboard exactly at the edges of the sample paper. This saves both material and subsequent cutting work!

Step 3: Now you can cut out the nicely pasted cardboard.

Tip: The non-stick side is later inside and can be painted at will. Even those who already know that he would like to wallpaper the interior with pattern paper, should still wait, because otherwise the tape would be visible later!

Step 4: Then pick up the five 9 x 9 cm elements and lay them on the table top like a plus. That means: At each edge of the middle square is another piece of cardboard. The result is the bottom half of your box.

Step 5: Lay the lid in the same way as the large square forms the center and is bordered on all edges by the narrow cardboard strips.

Step 6: Now carefully glue the interfaces - ie those areas where two pieces of cardboard meet - in a masking tape.

Step 7: Pick up the lid and bring it to its proper shape by placing the corners together. Now fix them with masking tape. At the bottom of the box, the corners remain unpainted: this results in the later unpacking of the gift, the pretty fanning effect.

Tip: Make sure you stick the masking tape as cleanly as possible and without wrinkles. Otherwise, it will later be insufficiently covered by paint.

Step 8: Now it's time for the "interior design", which is particularly important in this kind of box. Let your imagination run free or choose one of the variants suggested below. Whichever you choose: always make sure to leave the corners of the base open.

Ideas for the interior of the effect box:

  • also stick with pattern paper
  • alternatively use plain paper for a noble effect
  • with acrylic paint - about in gold - paint over
  • paint on or on a piece of colored paper by hand motifs, such as Christmas trees, stars, etc.
  • Stick on small motifs: cut out snowman figures or small stickers
  • the edges are lined with matching gift ribbon or washi tape
  • keep the walls quite discreetly and make a lavish motif on the ground, possibly even stick a small figure or entire snow globe (works only if the gift to be wrapped is quite light and fluffy, such as a delicate garment or stuffed animal)
  • On a plain background, write wishes or Christmas lyrics / poems by hand in such a way that in the end the entire surface is covered with them
  • Glue in wintery photos

Simple gift bag

If it has to go faster, this cute gift bag is a great alternative to elaborate DIY boxes dar. It also packs your gift in a wonderfully individual way, does not cost much and can be made in no time from just a pretty piece of paper itself.

Difficulty: Very easy
Time required: complete with a little practice in 5 minutes
Material costs: under 3 euros

material

  • Sturdy pattern paper in A4 format or colored cardboard (larger formats up to A1 work well and give a corresponding voluminösermer Täschchen, but stay with the same aspect ratio and adjust the dimensions accordingly)
  • ruler
  • pencil

manual

Step 1: Place your sheet with the subject down in portrait format.

Step 2: Measure 12 cm from the bottom edge and then connect it with ruler and pencil to form a parallel line.

Step 3: Repeat the same from the top edge.

Step 4: Now imagine the paper in landscape format. The long sides now form the upper and lower edges.

Step 5: Measure an edge of 4 cm both above and below and then mark it again with a line parallel to the long sides.

Step 6: And now switch back to the portrait format. In this position, the markers make a strong H on your hand. First fold the outer beam of the pencil line inwards.

Step 7: To fold the two lines that form the center bar, press the protruding paper triangle neatly inside and then fold a diagonal kink.

Step 8: If you now bring the long sides up, your bag is already ready for use. Fill in your gifts, flip them over easily, and just staple at the top. You can put on a nice bow, washi tape or some glittering stones.

Tip: The small bags are also perfect to make an Advent calendar out of it! Just 24 copies of it provided with the appropriate numbers and fill a small treat!
