Autumn is here and with it the scary time of Halloween. More and more scary friends like the fierce party and celebrate it with goodwill, big or small. Of course, bats should not be missing. Here we show you 3 simple craft instructions, with which even you or your children can make a bat with only a few materials. As Halloweendeko the little bloodsuckers should not be missed.
The bat is one of the most popular Halloween decorations ever. But not only in the dark autumn time you are a welcome decoration element, even on carnival, matching the witch - or batma costume, they play an important role.
The advantage of our crafting instructions is that you do not really need many or even expensive materials. So easy and cheap bats can be made. So the next ghost party can come.
Folding origami bat
With a little skill you can make a bat out of a single, square sheet of paper - Origami makes it possible. This noble paper bat makes a particularly good hanging element in a mobile or even in the door frame.
You need:
- Pencil and ruler
- bonefolder
- a sheet of black paper (10 cm x 10 cm)
- self-adhesive wiggle eyes
Step 1: Place the square sheet of paper in front of you first. Fold one of the diagonals - a triangle comes out, which points upwards with the 90 ° point.
Step 2: Make a mark with pencil and ruler at the following points along the center line: at 2.5 cm, 4 cm and at 5.5 cm.
Step 3: The triangle is then folded once along this center line and then unfolded again.
Step 4: Follow the markings below. First, fold the tip pointing upwards at 2.5 cm. Then fold this tip back up at 4 cm. Then fold the tip again at 5.5 cm and down again.
Step 5: Now imagine a triangle, as we drew it in red. Then fold the right wing inward, along the outer edge of the imaginary triangle. Open the wing again.
Step 6: Repeat step 5 with the other side.
Step 7: Now the wings get their field mouse optics. Fold the right wing inwards, along the lower outer edge, to the next point. Now take the outer edge and fold it upwards towards the outer edge of the head triangle. Open this last fold again. Afterwards, the wing is folded in again and opened again.
Step 8: Similarly, step 7 is repeated with the other side.
Step 9: The wings are then aligned. Fold the right wing as in step 5 towards the middle, but this time a little further than before. Retain the fold and fold the entire wing completely backwards at the edge from step 5.
Step 10: Repeat step 9 on the other side as well.
Step 11: Finally, fold the head - open the middle triangle for this purpose. The up-pointing tip is hammered down. The down-facing tip, however, is folded up over this.
Make a bat with a craft template
As a window decoration in autumn and on Halloween, these paper bats are particularly good. With its large curved wings, such a bat cuts a fine figure in every window.
You need:
- Working creatively
- black construction paper
- pen
- scissors
- ruler
- self-adhesive wiggle eyes
- Needle and twine
Step 1: At the beginning you print out our craft template. Just pick the desired bat. The big bat is doing well in the window. You can tinker the little bat several times, and then thread them into a curtain.

Step 2: Carefully cut out the craft template.
Step 3: Now transfer the outlines to the black construction paper with a pencil.
4th step: Then the bat is cut out.
5th step: On the template you see five dashed lines per wing. Now place the ruler on the black bat in the places where these lines would run. Guide the tip of the scissors along the ruler with a little pressure. In this way, you mark the fold lines.
Step 6: The wings are now folded on these lines. Start inside on the left with the first fold. Fold this backwards. The next fold is then folded forward, the third then back to back etc. This is called the mountain fold. By folding back and forth, the wings get a three-dimensionality. Fold the other wing in this way too.
Step 7: Now the bats get their eyes. Simply stick two shaky eyes on the face.
Tip: Wiggle eyes with integrated adhesive film are best suited for this purpose.
Step 8: Now the bat only has to be hung with a thread at the desired place. Just prick a hole with the needle through the middle of the head, knot a piece of twine on it and the bat is ready for the window.
Make a bat out of toilet paper roll
These bats are tough. You can not only recycle to this crafting, but also create great lampshades at the same time. But more on that later.
You need:
- Cardboard roll of toilet paper
- black acrylic paint
- brush
- black construction paper
- Scissors and pencil
- yellow tracing paper
- PVA glue
Step 1: To begin, cut two eyes into the cardboard tube. You can also pre-draw these with a pencil.
2nd step: Now the empty cardboard roll must be blackened. Brush the cardboard around and as well as possible inside with black paint. Acrylic paint covers well and is also dry quickly.
Tip: Of course you can also make the bat in a different color. Dark autumn tones like dark red, brown, moss green or even orange are perfect.
Step 3: Then cut a small piece of transparent paper. This should be so large that it completely covers the eyes of the bat. Glue the transparent paper with craft glue from the inside over the eyes.
4th step: After the eyes are completed, the upper opening of the cardboard roller is closed with your fingers. Press the cardboard together so that small peaks form on the left and right. These are the ears of the bat.
5th step: Now it's the turn of the wings. Here you can let your creativity run free. Draw a jagged, round or even pointed wing on the construction paper with the pencil. Pay attention to the proportions of the wings, that these also fit the body of the bat. Cut out the first wing and then use it as a template for the second wing.
Step 6: Now the wings are glued to the back of the cardboard tube.
Done is the bat! The special feature of this bat is that the transparent paper of the eyes lets light shine through. Just make a lot of these little bloodsuckers and attach each with a small wooden clamp on a lamp of a fairy lights. How to make a Halloween fairy lights easy.
