Although there are such adhesives in the trade to buy, but usually the "Edible Glues" are relatively expensive. For this reason, it is advisable to make edible glue yourself, especially since it is a very simple task. We introduce you the two usual methods!

Let's be honest: decorations make a cake perfect. However, it needs a means to reliably attach the elements to the sweet treat. It is crucial that the decoration pieces do not slip or even fall over during the minimal movement of the cake. In addition, the adhesive used should leave no unsightly marks and - the most important point - food safe, so edible.

Buying a finished adhesive is often unnecessarily expensive. Save yourself the money and invest in the few ingredients needed to literally make your own enjoyable glue. Our two instructions are easy to implement. Here we go!

What you need to make edible glue:

• small plastic bottle (with lid)
• water
• CMC
• cooking pot
• measuring Cup
• teaspoon
• funnel

CMC - carboxymethylcellulose

CMC is the abbreviation of carboxymethylcellulose. This substance is obtained from coniferous and hardwoods and used for different purposes, such as an additive in detergents or as a thickener (as in the case of the edible adhesive). Surely, the Kukident Haftpulver is known by name at least. It is 100 percent CMC - and is also suitable for the preparation of edible glue.

Tip: Alternatively to CMC you can also use tragacanth. However, the gum (a natural polysaccharide) costs significantly more than carboxymethylcellulose, which does not have to be to make an edible glue by itself.

Funnel - alternative

If you do not have a funnel at home, there's a little trick you can do in no time: Take a thin sheet of paper (like baking paper) and roll it into a funnel shape. With a piece of Tesaband you can fix your work well - but make sure that there is a free opening at the bottom, through which the powder can flow.

How to proceed:

Step 1: Boil about 300 milliliters of water in a saucepan.

Step 2: Remove the pot from the plate and wait until the water is cool.

Step 3: Measure 200 milliliters of the boiled water with the measuring container.

Step 4: Grab the bottle and open it. Put 200 ml of water in the plastic bottle.

Note: The bottle inside must be absolutely clean (cleaned)!

Tip: A plastic bottle has many advantages here. You can easily put them in the fridge or lie down. Moreover, she does not break down once she falls to the ground.

Step 5: Place the funnel on and in the bottleneck.

Step 6: Fill a teaspoon of CMC over the funnel into the bottle.

Important: DO NOT add the powder first and then the water. Otherwise it may be that the powder sticks down and does not become an edible glue.

Step 7: Close the bottle.

Note: You will notice immediately that the powder does not dissolve (immediately). That's right, so it's completely normal.

Step 8: Shake the bottle vigorously to mix water and powder a little.

Note: Now you will notice lumping - that too must be so. They do not do anything wrong, on the contrary.

Step 9: Let the mix stand for a few hours (overnight). The powder uses the time to completely dissolve in the water. The next day you will find a thick glue.

Step 10: Label the bottle with the date of manufacture - to know later how long you have been using the adhesive. Finished!

Edible glue use

You need this:

• Ketchup serving glasses or small jam jars (as in hotels, the cups / glasses have to be clean!)
• edible glue

How to proceed:

Step 1: Add enough glue from the bottle into the cup until it is full (or as much as you expect).

Now you can work wonderfully.

Step 2: Close the bottle immediately and put it in the fridge.

Tip: If you always close it carefully and store it in the fridge, your edible glue usually lasts for five to six months. But it can still be that he gives up the ghost earlier (for example, through impurities in the bottle). This can be easily recognized - either by mold in the glue or by a bad smell. Throw away lazy glue right away (just do not use!).

Step 3: Dip the brush into the glue and paint the utensil you want to stick to the cake.

Important: Always take less than too much glue to avoid damaging the cake.

Sugar glue is more or less universally applicable. We recommend to use it primarily for large-area bonding (such as the fondant blanket). In short, the CMC adhesive is for smaller items and figures, and the sugar adhesive is for large areas.

Sometimes it is also recommended to simply use water as an adhesive. In principle, this is possible, but: Due to the thinness of the water, it can happen that the latter runs down on the part where you want to fix the respective element.
