Amigurumi is and will remain a crochet trend. Everything that gives pleasure, can be crocheted in the Amigurumi style. The crochet hook are no limits. With our free crochet pattern Amigurumi "Dragon crochet" we continue our Amigurumi series. It was important to us once again that our instructions can be well reworked even by beginners.

For Amigurumi, no complicated crochet patterns are used. It is enough if you can crochet solid loops. Everything else is explained step by step in our Amigurumi crochet pattern " Crocheting the Dragon ". The crocheting of balls and geometric patterns is enough to conjure a new figure. For our guide you will work many small items that will be put together at the end. Even beginners will therefore be easy with our Amigurumi crochet pattern.

With a small play of yarn and color, maybe even your own idea on an accessory, you can create your own individual figure . At Amigurumi, anything is allowed that pleases.

Material and preparation

Which yarn to process ">

Amigurumi lives beside the many small details also from the yarn, with which one works. In principle, every yarn or every wool can be processed. Often, yarn remnants can also be used for these small miniature crochet works . Important in the yarn decision is that the crochet hook fits the yarn or the wool. Because it not only determines the stitch pattern, the strength of the crochet hook also determines the size of the work.

If the Amigurumi figure is small, you have to work with a thinner yarn and a smaller needle size. If you want to grow up, maybe even serve as a toy, work with a thicker yarn and a correspondingly strong needle. So you can determine the size of your work with the yarn thickness.

We crocheted with a cotton yarn . Simply because cotton shows a very clear and precise stitch pattern. Cotton also remains dimensionally stable, which is very accommodating to little figures.

What is the little dragon filled with ">

The filler gives every Amigurumi figure the finishing touch. The filling gives the body its shape and character. The material used for this is therefore not unimportant. It should be so flexible that it can be filled even in the smallest corners of the figure.

All types of filling wadding are suitable for this. It does not matter if the cotton wool filler is made of synthetic or natural fiber. Synthetic cotton can be crammed very well and gives every figure a perfect shape.

The natural cotton wool, which is often bought as a household cotton, can also be crammed. However, there is a risk with this filler that it starts to lump over time. That's why we opted for a synthetic filling wadding .

For our Amigurumi crochet pattern you need material:

• 50 grams of cotton 130 m / 50 grams
• Cotton yarn remains in different colors (with them the little details are worked on the dragon)
• 1 crochet hook 3 mm thick
• 1 crochet hook of thickness 2.5 mm
• 2 button eyes
• Filling cotton for stuffing
• Stopfnadel for sewing together the individual parts

Basic pattern crochet dragon

The entire dragon is worked with fixed stitches . Every single part starts with a thread ring . If you no longer have the thread ring in your head, you will find detailed instructions in our section "Learning crochet". Crochet the thread ring.

If you can not cope with the thread ring at all, you do not have to despair and think that crocheting a dragon does not work. Yes, it works anyway. Crochet 4 meshes, close them with a slit stitch in the first loop of air to the circle.

In this circle, the first 6 fixed stitches are crocheted - these are the first round in all instructions. Then continue with the second round as described in our Amigurumi manual.

Grown with strong stitches

The increase is always done so that two stitches are worked into a stitch of the preliminary round.

Slimming with fixed stitches

The removal of stitches should be crocheted as invisible as possible. There are several ways to do this. We decided on them and think that they are among the best methods.

Using the crochet hook, punch in the next two stitches, but each time only hold the front of the stitch on the needle. For this no work thread is taken. There are three loops on the crochet hook.

Now get the working thread and pull through the first two loops. Get work thread again and pull through the last two loops.

Crochet dragon

The dragon is crocheted in many small pieces . At the end these are stuffed with cotton wool and sewn together.

The head

1st round: Crochet 6 tight stitches in the thread ring.

2nd round: double all stitches = 12 stitches.
3rd round: double every 2nd stitch = 18 stitches.
4th round: double every 3rd stitch = 24 stitches.
5th round: double every 4th stitch = 30 stitches.

Round 6: Crochet 1 stitch in each stitch. However, it is only pierced in the rear mesh member. That is, the front stitch yarn remains visible. This gives a nice demarcation to the following rounds.

7th through 11th round: work only on fixed loops.

12th round:

• 3 fixed stitches
• Crochet 2 stitches together
• decrease the whole round = 24 stitches

Round 13: Only fixed stitches work.

14th round:

• 2 strong stitches
• Crochet 2 stitches together
• the entire round = 18 stitches

15th round: Double every third stitch = 24 stitches.
16th round: Double every 4th stitch = 30 stitches.
17th round: Double every 5th stitch = 36 stitches.
Round 18: Crochet only sturdy stitches.
19th round: Double every 6 stitches = 42 stitches.
20th through 25th round: Crochet only sts = 42 stitches.

26th round:

• 5 strong stitches
• Crochet 2 stitches = 36 stitches

27th round:

• 4 fixed stitches
• Crochet 2 stitches = 30 stitches

Round 28: Only fixed stitches work.

29th round:

• 3 fixed stitches
• Crochet 2 stitches = 24 stitches
• In this round you can start stuffing your head with cotton wool

Round 30: Only fixed stitches work.

31st round:

• 2 strong stitches
• Crochet 2 stitches = 18 stitches
• If you do not have enough cotton wool, you can replenish it now

32nd round:

In this round, always crochet 2 stitches together until only 1 stitch remains. At the last stitch cut the thread and pull it through the stitch. The head is ready. Possibly fill in some more filling cotton.

The body

Crocheting the body from the dragon is a lengthened ball.

• thread ring

1st round: Crochet 6 tight stitches in the thread ring.
2nd round: double all stitches = 12 stitches.
3rd round: double every 2nd stitch = 18 stitches.
4th round: double every 3rd stitch = 24 stitches.
5th round: double every 4th stitch = 30 stitches.
Round 6: Double every 5th stitch = 36 stitches.
Round 7: Double every 6 stitches = 42 stitches.
Round 8: Double every 7th stitch = 48 stitches.

9th through 22nd round: Crochet only crochet.

Round 23: Crochet each 7th and 8th stitch together = 42 stitches.
Round 24: Crochet each 6th and 7th stitch = 36 stitches.
Round 25: Crochet each 5th and 6th stitch = 30 stitches.

Round 26: Crochet each 4th and 5th stitch = 24 stitches. In this round, stuff the dragon with stuffing cotton.

Round 27: Crochet each 3rd and 4th stitch together = 18 stitches.

Round 28: Crochet every 2nd and 3rd stitch = 12 stitches. Maybe stuff with stuffing still further.

Round 29: Crochet each 1st and 2nd stitch until only 1 stitch remains at the end. Cut the thread and pull it through the last stitch.

The legs

Legs and arms are crocheted like a small hose. The soles we have worked with a yellow yarn.

• thread ring

1st round: Yellow yarn, 6 fixed stitches in the thread ring work.
2nd round: double yellow yarn, each stitch = 12 stitches.
3rd round: Yellow yarn, double every 2nd stitch = 18 stitches.
4th round: double yellow yarn, every 3rd stitch = 24 stitches.

5th round: and crochet all other rounds in green. Crochet a tight stitch in each stitch. Only pierce in the rear mesh member. = 24 stitches.

6th - 21st round: Only work fixed stitches = 24 stitches.

Round 22: Crochet every 5th and 6th stitch = 18 stitches.

Finish the last stitch with a slit stitch. Cut the thread a little longer and pull it through the stitch. Stuff with filling cotton. Layer the stitches together and sew them together with the cut thread to make a straight edge. This edge is then sewn to the body. The 2nd leg work the same way.

The poor

The arms are crocheted almost the same as the legs.

1st through 3rd rounds: Working from the thread ring to the 3rd round just like the leg. Start with yellow paint and work until the 3rd round counts 18 stitches.

4th round: Continue crocheting with green and only pierce the back loop = 18 stitches.

5th to 17th round: Crochet only right stitches = 18 stitches.

Round 18: Crochet every 2nd and 3rd stitch together. Finish the last stitch with a slit stitch. Continue working as in the leg. Use stuffing and stuff the arm with the thread so that only one edge stops.

The tail

The tail is a significant member of the entire dragon. He also supports the body while sitting, so he not only has a beauty function in our "dragon crochet". So that the tail tip seems pronounced, we worked the first three rounds with a crochet hook 2.5 mm . This also facilitates the first round in the thread ring. From the fourth round we went back to 3 mm .

1st round: work 3 fixed stitches in the thread ring.
2nd round: double all stitches = 6 stitches.
3rd round: Crochet only right stitches = 6 stitches.

From the 4th round it continues, as in the 2nd and 3rd round . That is, in each even round the stitches are doubled as we have already worked on the body.

That means for the 4th round:

Every second stitch is doubled = 12 stitches. In the 6th round, every 3rd stitch is doubled = 15 stitches. In the odd rounds, only crochet stitches are crocheted. So keep working until the 21st round = 33 stitches. The dragon's tail is ready. It just has to be stuffed and sewn.

The eyes

The eyes and the nostrils we worked with a crochet hook 2.5 mm .

1st round: Crochet 4 sts in the thread ring.
2nd round: double all stitches = 8 stitches.

3rd round: double every 2nd stitch = 12 stitches. Finish the round with a warp stitch. Cut the thread and pull it through the stitch. Crochet a second eye.

The nostrils

1st round: work 3 fixed stitches in the thread ring.
2nd round: double all stitches = 6 stitches.
3rd round: double every 2nd stitch = 9 stitches.

4th round: crochet only sts = 9 stitches. Finish the round with a warp stitch. Cut the thread and pull it through the stitch. The nostrils are not stuffed. Just sew the last round together. Crochet a second nostril.

The ears and backpaws

Both are crocheted exactly the same . The only difference is that the ears are slightly contracted when sewing together. As a result, the trough forms in the ear. Again, we start the first 3 rounds with the needle size 2.5 mm . Then it continues with 3 mm .

1st round: Crochet 3 sts in the thread ring.
2nd round: double the stitches = 6 stitches.
3rd round: Double every other stitch = 9 stitches.
4th round: crochet only sts = 9 stitches.
5th round: double every 3rd stitch = 12 stitches.
Round 6: Only work fixed stitches = 12 stitches.
Round 7: Double every 4th stitch = 15 stitches.
Round 8: Crochet only sts = 15 stitches.

The first ear is finished here. There is only a second ear to crochet. For the backpaws, there are two more rounds.

Round 9: Double every 5th stitch = 18 stitches.
Round 10: Crochet only sts = 18 stitches.

We crocheted 5 backpants . However, you can also sew the teeth closer together, you may need 7 points . The back and ears are not stuffed with stuffing. They are only folded together and sewn together to form an edge.

The belly

We crocheted the little dragon another spot on the belly. We used a lighter green to do that. This little belly patch may be, but does not have to be.
