Measure chest circumference - instructions for man & woman

You need to measure your chest circumference, but do not know how to do it? No problem, because this body part requires only a little exercise or a helping hand to perform the measurement accurately. The measurement of the torso is important to be able to easily buy suitable clothing that sits well on the body and does not seem too big or too small. This is especially important for women, as a bra in particular requires several dimensions to make it fit and comfortable to wear. Here comes the circumference of the breast used, so no too big or small bra is bought.

You do not need much to measure the breast. A measuring tape is the only tool you need for this and this should be applied to the body. A tape measure, as it is used in the in-house workshop, is not recommended, because this is not applied to the body and falsifies the result. In addition, it is not wrong if you use another person to help, since the measurement of the chest circumference is not always easy. You must pay attention to the following points when taking measurements:

1. You should only take the measurements with an unclothed upper body. This is not a problem for men. As a woman, you can do without the bra if you do not wear much bras. If you always wear a bra, you should measure your chest circumference with the bra.

2. It is best to position yourself in front of a mirror if you take the measurements alone. This will allow you to check if the tape is in place.

Measure chest circumference: Ladies

Women need not just one, but two measurements, especially if the bra size is to be determined. That's because bras are offered in two sizes:

• Cup size: A, B, C, D and so on
• Underbust circumference: 70, 75, 80 and so on

The underbust circumference is explained by the name itself. The size of the cup, on the other hand, is referred to as the actual chest circumference or the upper breast circumference. Together, these two sizes provide the perfect fit for your bra. For other clothes, only the upper chest circumference is needed. The circumference of the upper chest is given in letters only for cup sizes, in other garments in centimeters. For the measurement of the upper breast circumference proceed as follows:

1. Stand up straight and pick up the measuring tape. Do not stretch your chest out, that would falsify the result.

2. Now guide the measuring tape on your back over the lower part of the shoulder blades so that you guide the two ends under the armpit to the front. Now take one end in your hand and place it on the furthest part of your chest. Make sure that this point is not always on the nipples, but may be above or below it.

3. Now close the tape measure and check if it is twisted. Correct it, read the information and write down the value.

4. If you want to calculate your cup size with it, simply check this information with the cup sizes of the manufacturer.

The underbust circumference is measured in the following way:

1. For this measurement, stand straight back and breathe relaxed.

2. Now put the measuring tape directly under the bump of your breast. Read the value and make a note of it.

If you round up the quoted value in steps of 5, you will get the information like 75, 80 or 90 and can find the matching bra together with the cup size. For example, you would round 81 cm by 80 cm or 104 cm by 105 cm.

Measure chest circumference: Men

If you are a man, you only have to measure one size. Proceed as follows:

1. Stand up straight and breathe relaxed. Do not stretch your chest, because men tend to be stronger than women.

2. The measuring tape is now guided under the armpits and closed at the front of the chest. As with the ladies, the measuring tape can be either on the nipples or slightly above it. Below is less common.

3. Read the value and make a note of it.
