      Wash linens

If you want to enjoy a good night's sleep, clean linen is a must. As a person loses body fluids such as sweat or saliva, oils, dander and hair overnight, bed sheets, pillowcases and blanket covers will foul in a short period of time. Failure to wash the bedding can cause numerous bacteria and even pests such as bedbugs to colonize your health. For that reason, it is not just a question of cleanliness, but a necessity for your health to wash linens. Important here is not only the frequency of washing. Temperature and selection of the bed linen side must also be considered.

      frequency

How often you should put your bedding in the washing machine is an essential aspect. It is necessary to wash your bed linen regularly and not to wait several months. Since a lot of dirt can accumulate within a few weeks, the following rhythms are recommended.

      • Autumn to Spring: every 3 weeks
      • Summer: every 2 weeks
      • Children's bed linen in the first months: every day until every 3 days
      • Children's bed linen during the first two years: weekly

Especially with newborns, it is necessary to keep the bedding as clean as possible, as this can quickly go wrong. The reason why washing should be done more frequently in summer is the higher temperatures at night. Since only a few households in Germany have air conditioning, it is normal to sweat more. This leads faster to soiled covers and sheets, which should be washed every two weeks. Be sure to comply with this period. If you are an allergic or family member, depending on the severity of your allergy, you should wash your bedding weekly or biweekly. Even hypoallergenic laundry should be washed after these periods to prevent large amounts of dander or hair from accumulating.

Tip: If you sleep undressed, you should wash your bedding more often than described above. Due to the increased release of dander, sweat and other bodily secretions, it is recommended to have a fresh bed every week.

      temperature

The right temperature when washing is not only important to get the dirt out of the bedding, but to preserve the fibers and not inevitably damage them. Excessively high temperatures quickly cause the fabric fibers to break and thus get rougher, even if you use softener. Therefore, you should use the following values to avoid damaging your sheets and covers by washing them.

      • 40 ° C: universal and heavy-duty detergent
      • 60 ° C: colored laundry detergent

Detergent always has different effects on the fibers and the water. Colored laundry detergent is usually gentler than full or universal detergent and therefore you need to set higher temperatures. 60 ° C should also be chosen if the bedding is used by allergy sufferers or sick people. Since bacteria, viruses and house dust mites in this area feel even more comfortable and can multiply more easily, 60 ° C are needed to kill them. This is also necessary for hypoallergenic laundry, as mites are killed only at this temperature.

Tip: Washing the pajamas or your sleeping clothes at a temperature of 60 ° C is just as important as changing the bed linen regularly. Since you wear these directly on the body, you should change all three and allergy sufferers or sufferers every two days at the latest, the sleeping clothes, which also keeps the freshness of the sheets and covers much longer.

      Left or right ">

Under the goods side, the outer side of the covers understood. The textile side of textiles refers to the side that is always visible and therefore often more sensitive to external influences. Especially when it comes to colored pieces or fine materials, the goods side is faster damaged by the hot water. Colors wash faster when you have the fabric side out when washing and lint is more common. In the long term, washing will cause the linen to fade.

      2nd inside

The inside is the part of the covers that are not visible . It hides the seams and is more robust than the material side. In addition, this is not colored in most cases and thus made for washing. The inside is the preferred choice for any type of laundry, especially when high temperatures are used for washing, as is the case for covers.

Turning the bedding from right to left avoids common problems caused by washing the fabric side.

      • quickly clogged lint filters
      • Discoloration of other laundry items
      • longer drying times

Discoloration is especially possible when you wash two different colored sheets or covers that are turned to the right. This quickly lose color and even give it to the other laundry. This happens especially quickly when, for example, you put a white sheet with a dark blue pillowcase in the machine. Generally, you should never wash to gross color contrasts together to get the actual patterns and shades.

Tip: Another advantage of turning bed linen to the left is the easy drape after it is dry again. Since the inside of the goods is inside, you can buy pillows and blankets over the covers immediately and do not need to turn them again before.
