Baby shoes and a lot of love belong to the basic equipment of every baby. They only need two things when they see the light of day: love and warmth. And for the warmth baby booties are just the thing.

No one is given a present rather than a little baby. And there's nothing better than reaching for the needles and nimbly warming the baby and delighting the parents.

With our guide every beginner can knit these baby shoes. You do not need any special knitting skills. If you can knit right and left stitches, these baby booties will also be easy to knit. The knitting success shows up after a short time. It certainly will not stay with a pair of baby boobs, they're just too pretty for that.

Step by step, we will show you how to give these baby booties for babies from 0 to 3 months.

Material and preparation

The skin of babies is still particularly tender and sensitive. You should never forget this when buying wool for baby clothes. Tender skin demands soft and soft wool. This may be a special soft merino wool or a synthetic fiber yarn. Also special cotton blends are suitable for sensitive baby skin.

We knitted baby booties for the cold season and therefore processed a soft merino wool.

Our yarn corresponds to the Baby Smiles Merino Wool by Schachenmayr. This wool can be bought in 25 gram balls with a length of 85 m. A perfect set for little baby booties. This wool is knitted with a needle size 3 - 3.5.

According to our instructions you need:

  • 25 grams of wool
  • 1 pair of knitting needles of strength 3 - 3.5
  • 1 darning needle
  • tape measure

Tip: If you knit a yarn that deviates completely from our suggested needle size, we recommend that you knit a small stitch before starting work. Then you can see exactly how many stitches and how many rows you need for the baby booties.

Basic pattern half patent

The cuffs we knitted in the half patent pattern. Knitting beginners do not have to worry, this pattern consists only of right and left stitches and an envelope.

But with this pattern, the cuffs become particularly loose and elastic. Especially with babies, it is important that nothing presses or cuts. This does not happen with the half patent pattern.

half Patent

1st row after the stroke (even mesh count):

  • edge stitch
  • 1 stitch on the right
  • Put 1 envelope in front of the next stitch and lift off both on the left
  • 1 stitch on the right
  • 1 envelope, lift off the stitch on the left
  • the row ends with a border stitch

2nd row = back row:

  • edge stitch
  • all stitches are knitted as they appear
  • Knit the stitch with the envelope on the right
  • the knit, which appears on the left but was knitted on the right in the previous row, now knit on the left
  • 1 Ma right (the envelope stitch)
  • 1 Ma left
  • the row ends with a border stitch

Basic pattern smooth right

Smooth right only means that right-hand stitches are knitted in the back row and left-hand stitches in the back row.

Basic pattern on the right

In the pattern on the crotch right, always only right stitches are knitted in the front row and back row.

The edge mesh

In order for the baby boot to get along without a beaded seam, we recommend working the edge stitch as follows:

  • RS row: Knit the last stitch as the right stitch.
  • Back row: Only lift the first stitch. The working thread lies on the front of the needle.

How then these edge stitches can be sewn together almost seamlessly, we show at the end.

Knitting baby booties

Our baby booties are about 8 cm long at the sole of the foot and have a circumference at the cuff of 14 cm. They are suitable for babies up to 3 months. The baby booties are knitted in one piece. Only after the knitting work, the shaft and the foot are sewn together in one piece.

Tip: If you want to knit larger baby booties, just hit more stitches.

You then knit the cuff and the shaft the same. For the foot center piece, take 10 or 12 stitches instead of 8 stitches. At the foot level just knit a round = 2 rows more. And when you take off to the sole of your foot, take one more lap. You see, it's not hard to change the size of baby booties.

attack

There are 32 stitches struck on the needle.

Cuffs and shaft

In the half-patent, knit the cuff 3.5 centimeters high. After the cuff, knit 3 centimeters smooth right.

The foot

For the foot, the knitting work is divided into three sections: the left foot, the right foot and the middle foot part.

We start with the middle foot part:

  • Knit 20 stitches to the right
  • turn the work over
  • Knit 8 stitches on the left
  • turn the work over
  • Knit 8 stitches to the right
  • Now the midsection is knitted 10 rows in this order.

In the following rounds, the middle part of the foot is connected to the sides. Cut off the work thread.

Put all the stitches (side and middle part) on a needle. Now start the knitting work with a new working thread again from the beginning of the needle.

Knit the first 12 stitches on the right. Pick up 5 stitches from the side edge at the middle part.

  • Knit 8 stitches from center piece
  • Pick up 5 stitches on the left side edge of the middle section
  • Knit 12 stitches to the right

Tip: If the 2nd photo on the middle part is too narrow, just pick up these stitches with a third knitting needle and continue knitting the rest with this needle.

In the second round all stitches can be united on one needle. Turn to work.

There are now 42 stitches on the needle.

Stem Height

5 rounds = 10 rows are knitted in kraus right. That is, back and forth row right stitches.

The foot height goes over with the following weight loss in the sole of the foot.

Row = 42 stitches

  • 1 edge stitch
  • 17 stitches
  • Knit 2 stitches together to the right
  • 2 stitches
  • Knit 2 stitches together to the right
  • 17 stitches
  • 1 edge stitch

back row

  • all stitches right

Row = 40 stitches

  • 1 edge stitch
  • 15 stitches
  • Knit 2 stitches together
  • 4 Ma r
  • Knitt 2 pairs together
  • 15 stitches
  • 1 edge stitch

back row

  • 1 edge stitch
  • Knit 2 stitches together to the right
  • all stitches re
  • knit the two stitches in front of the edge stitch on the right side
  • 1 edge stitch

Row = 36 stitches

  • 1 edge stitch
  • 13 stitches
  • Knit 2 Ma right together
  • 6 Ma r
  • Knit 2 Ma right together
  • 13 stitches
  • 1 edge stitch

back row

  • 1 edge stitch
  • Knit 2 stitches together to the right
  • all stitches re
  • knit the two stitches in front of the edge stitch on the right side
  • 1 edge stitch

Bind off all stitches on the needle. Cut the thread so long that the baby boot can be sewn together with it.

Sewing the baby booties together

The baby shoe should be sewn together without a beaded seam.

This goes like this:

Apply the work on the left. Lay the pages together so that the edge stitches are facing each other nicely. Now insert the needle into the two inner threads of the edge stitch and lightly pull on the thread.

Now you just have to sew the work threads and the first baby booties is done.

variation

With this simple guide for baby booties you can knit all variations.
Just by a different cuff, the entire expression of the Schühchens changed. You can let your imagination run wild. We have another variant with Mäusezähnchen knitted.

Also, by the type of yarn and the yarn size of each shoe looks the same way. Due to the yarn size, the shoe size can be easily changed. Only the basic pattern of these Babyschühchen, that always remains the same.
