After my tutorial for a sleeping bag for turning I would like to present you today a unlined version, but this is more elaborate. The creation of the pattern was a challenge, the result is even more beautiful!

In this manual, you will find a pattern for a baby sleeping bag in size 62. For other sizes should really only be adjusted length and width, because the sleeping bag does not have to be tailor made. How to do it "> Material and preparation

The choice of material and the amount of material for the baby sleeping bag

You can always use any kind of fabric for the sleeping bag. The material does not necessarily have to be stretchy, but if it is stretchy, the baby sleeping bag can certainly be used longer. Especially with my children, I pay attention to safe materials, so I recommend at least ÖKOTEX standard to GOTS certified materials. In the German-speaking countries this is already required in the trade anyway, but pay attention to materials from the rest of the world.

For this tutorial I use black cotton jersey with colorful unicorn motif from www.zwirnpiraten.at For this fabric there is also a nice variant with clouds and rainbows without unicorns. I think that this fabric is suitable for boys and girls. The size of the pattern I have chosen so that the sleeping bag is suitable as a baby gift. In the height I have consumed in just over 60 cm incl. The seam allowances. In addition, I have processed a lot of Kam-Snaps 8 times the base side and 6 times the rivet side.

The sewing pattern for the baby sleeping bag

For the pattern, draw my template with the appropriate dimensions 1: 1 and add your usual seam allowance (anywhere except in the rupture). The usual seam allowances are 0.7 to 1 cm .

Cut all parts including seam allowances. There are no further additions for seams or the like necessary. You need the following cut parts:

• Front part (1x in break)
• Voucher for front part (1x in break)
• Back part (1x in break)
• Voucher for back part (1x in break)
• Carrier (2x)

In addition, I recommend ironing insert as reinforcement for the edges and stabilizer for the snaps.

Iron it directly onto the left side of the fabric.

Sewing instructions - baby sleeping bag

Iron the shoulder straps for the baby sleeping bag longitudinally right to right (ie with the "beautiful" fabric sides together) and sew one long and one short side together.

The short side seamed together of the wearer will later be under the front of the baby sleeping bag. Cut the corner with the seam at an angle, turn both straps and iron over them once the corners and edges have been formed.

Overcast the document parts on the lower edge. Place the front slip right to right on the front piece and put both layers together. Sew along the edge.

Fold the document outwards, shape all edges nicely and iron them for a nicer shape.

Place the two carriers with their closed sides facing down on the shoulders of the hindquarters. I glued both straps in position with some diamond tape. You can also secure them with pins or Wonderclips. Place the receipt right to right on the rump. You will notice that the document is narrower than the rump, but that is so intentionally. In the first step, only attach the side edges and sew them together.

Tip: You can now fold the pages inwards so that the document is in the middle. The newly created side edges can be ironed or stuck for a short time.

Place the document in the same way as the rest of the back piece, fix the layers in places, especially at the shoulders, where four layers meet with the straps, and sew once from side to side.

Tip: The neck of the baby sleeping bag I sewed only with the sewing machine instead of the overlock, so that the fabric bead does not apply in the Halsrundung.

You can also sew the small piece on the underside of the slip on the right and left side together with the sewing machine (sew well at the beginning and end) or with a few stitches thoroughly by hand.

Now turn the document outwards and carefully pull on the straps. Shape all corners and edges nicely and iron on them for a better result.

The front of the baby sleeping bag is now placed right side on the right side of the back. Make sure that the corners meet exactly so that the seam allowance of the document disappears completely inside after turning. Stick this place very well. Now put together at the rounding both layers together. The front of the sleeping bag is slightly wider so the baby can enjoy more legroom. That means for you, that you have to stretch the lower fabric a little bit when putting it together and sewing it.

Tip: It is best to put together the lower centers (break lines) and then more marking points - similar to the cuff.

Begin sewing the curve slightly below the side points when sewing with the overlock. You can use the sewing machine to sew the last piece so that it will be exact - or even by hand, if you prefer. You can see that the front part now curls a bit so that the previously mentioned legroom is better.

The baby sleeping bag is now ready sewn. Now attach the press studs, two left and one right, one at the top and two at the straps, so that you can vary the length of the straps. Zipper style:

If you want to make it easier to put on and take off the baby sleeping bag, you can also sew a zipper in the bottom part. In this case, it is advisable to crimp the front part already in advance. To do this you quilt the machine in a long basting stitch, which you only sew at the beginning, but not at the end. You then lightly pull on one of the two threads, so that the fabric curls up to the desired length, then knot the ends. The alternative is to adjust the size of the front sleeping bag part to that of the back piece and simply sew a zipper over the entire opening or part of it. Adjust size:

For the correct width, measure your baby, quarter the chest, and add 1cm. Then measure the front of the pattern on the top and get a difference (from a few millimeters to centimeters). To make this difference, place the pattern when cutting from the material break. For the length, divide the pattern at the front AND behind the side buttons and add the desired length difference.

Instead of snaps, of course, all other types of closure can be used. If you want a tie closure, remember to cut slightly longer straps for the front and incorporate them when sewing on the front slip. Buttons are also very nice here.
