Fill your finished work of art in a beautiful carafe or a fine glass, it will even make a wonderful gift, bathing friends guaranteed!

In the first part of our comprehensive DIY guidebook, we present you with a basic recipe that you can use to experiment with the individual components of your bath salts. Always use the indispensable ingredients and add herbs and flowers as you wish. Then we will provide you with concrete inspiration, for example for a soothing lavender and fragrance-intensive rose bath salt.

The basic recipe

For your personal water park you need in any case:

  • 1 tbsp sea or Himalayan salt
  • 1 tablespoon of soda
  • 4 tablespoons of Epsom salt (also known as Epsom salt or magnesium sulfate)
  • 1 tbsp. Oil (of your choice, for example jojoba, almonds, coconut, olive, argan ...)
  • Flowers or herbs

Important instructions:

A: Some of you may truncate on the Epsom salt. Yes, it is used primarily as a laxative when needed. However, it is also safe to use for bath salts. Because Epsom salt has many advantages: It relieves both physical and mental tension, promotes wound healing, helps the skin to detoxify, and you, your stress just let go. In short, magnesium sulfate is a pure treat and should therefore play a major role in the creation of your bath salts. In smaller quantities you can get it in the pharmacy, larger packs can be found in the hardware store garden department with the fertilizers or in well-known online mail order companies.

B: One tablespoon is about 20 grams - for those who prefer to weigh the ingredients. And: If you want to make lavish bath salts, simply multiply the individual components accordingly. Example: If you want four times the amount, use four tablespoons of sea or Himalayan salt, four tablespoons of soda and 16 tablespoons of Epsom salts. Only with oil you should not use the formula 1: 1. It may well be that you need less than four tablespoons in the exemplary quadruple amount. It is therefore best to gradually add it to the salt and stir until a nice, not too moist mass emerges.

C: Please note that you can not exchange any of the salts used for common salt !

D: bath salts often leave an unsightly fat edge in the tub. However, this is easy to avoid: Add a touch of lysolecithin to the basic mix. It is a natural, derived from soybean emulsifier. It makes it possible for water and oil to combine with one another, leaving behind the otherwise obligatory fat edge after your bathing pleasure. In addition, lysolecithin provides a pleasant feeling on the skin. It is easy to handle, extremely productive and odorless. Incidentally, you would alternatively fluid lecithin or mulsifan available, but these emulsifiers are synthetically - that is artificially - made.

E: Now your personal bath salts are not quite ready. Add herbs and / or flowers as well as essential oils of your choice to give the bath additive its individual touch.

Rose petals not only smell, but are also very decorative.
Lavender flowers are small ...

Rose petals are not only a fragrant addition, which provides in the bath for a feel-good mood, but they also look very nice.

2nd step: Stir the used emulsifier smooth with the maintenance oil.

Tip: You really only need very little emulsifier - a thick drop is enough.

Step 3: Gradually add the care oil mixture to the salt, herb and flower mix and stir well. And so long, until you have the feeling, each salt grains is covered by the care oil.

Tip: If your mix tends to get too wet, you should add a little less caring oil. The salt should remain flaky.

Step 4: Finally, add the essential oils and stir thoroughly again. Your individual bath additive is ready!

Fill your homemade bath salt in a small glass bottle and you have a perfect gift - the matching deco to the fragrance gives it a noble touch.

Tip: Use one to three heaped tablespoons per full bath. To prevent the herb and / or flower decoration from clogging the drain over time, you should use a cheap drainage insert that will catch the particles. Airtight and dry stored keeps the bath salt as long as the raw materials that make it up.
